Position Description

The Kennedy lab is exploring the underlying mechanisms by which non-coding RNAs regulate transcription and chromatin states during reproduction and development, protect host genomes from transposable elements and viruses, and drive the inheritance of epigenetic states across generations.

This position will have responsibility for:

Conducting basic research in the areas of Genetics, Epigenetics, and Molecular Biology.
Managing daily research operations of a biomedical research laboratory in the Harvard Medical School Department of Genetics.

Assist in research in, and management of, a productive genetics and epigenetics laboratory at Harvard Medical School. The position will use established practices and procedures to conduct molecular biological experimentation into mechanisms of RNA-based epigenetic inheritance. The research is expected to be conducted while maintaining accurate records of experiments and analyses performed, conducting relevant literature searches, and maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of current methods of experimentation. Duties will include recombinant DNA techniques, microscopy, rudimentary bioinformatic analyses, and protein analysis. Activities will be complex and thus require accuracy, reliability, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage large databases. Laboratory management duties will include ordering lab supplies and reagents, shipping and receiving reagents to/from other labs, tracking budgeted spending and inventory, general lab organization, lab safety regulation, and maintaining animal husbandry reagents for other members of the lab. Additional duties will include the implementation of HMS, Department and Lab policies which include data management, MTAs and other lab compliance responsibilities. PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop skills are needed.


Basic Qualifications

College background or equivalent work experience, preferably in progressively responsible research/lab management, ideally in a biomedical/life sciences laboratory. At least one year related work experience (relevant course work may count towards experience).
Ability to lift, move, and transport research related equipment up to 10 pounds required.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

Bachelor's or PhD preferred.
Experience with safety regulations.
Experience creating and administering lab systems, practices, policies, and procedures.
Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel, Illustrator and Keynote.
Must be organized, dependable, and possess good problem-solving skills.
Able to work independently.
Able to work well with others in a collaborative team environment.
Strong communication skills and a positive attitude.
Strong initiative and the ability to self-start are essential.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift, move, and transport research related equipment up to 10 pounds required.

Additional Information

This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.

This is an in-person position based on our campus in Boston.
