Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The copyeditor/writer is responsible for copyediting and fact checking content for multiple university communications across various platforms including print, email, web, and social media, among others; line editing also may necessary. The copyeditor/writer is responsible for writing content for multiple university communications across those same platforms, all to support the university’s visibility, brand awareness, and admission goals. The individual in this position also works with the content director to help manage and post content to the university’s news website.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
A bachelor’s degree is required for this position along with a minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience in communications, media, or a related field. Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills are required, as is advanced proficiency in AP Style and/or Chicago Manual of Style. Excellent reporting, interviewing, and fact checking skills are required. Experience in higher education, the nonprofit sector, and/or a science and technology setting is a bonus.

The position requires strict adherence to the highest editing standards.

Write content for various other university communications.

Key Responsibility
Coordinate annual review of Illinois Tech Editorial Style Guide and ensure that the guide reflects changes to universally accepted style guides and trends.
