Job DescriptionDepartmental Objective
To assist with coordination of programs, events and activities in support of the recruitment, enrollment and coaching of new and existing students participating in the Community Captains Program and provide administrative support to the Director of Community Captains and Program Outreach and the Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer.
Purpose of the Position
The purpose of this position is to provide support to the Director of Community Captains and Program Outreach in addition to the Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer. This position also coordinates arrangements for programs, workshops, service days, program days and etc. as well as scheduling meetings, creating agendas and materials for current and prospective Community Captains, Newport News Public Schools offices and other Christopher Newport stakeholders. This position also serves to assist current and prospective Community Captains and their families to obtain accurate university information and address questions and concerns about the program, applying to college and transitioning to college, and refer inquiries to other appropriate offices as needed. This position is also responsible for calendar and event management, including correspondence to internal and external university constituents on behalf of the Director or the Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer as required. Other administrative tasks include recording sensitive student information in the designated system and maintaining records as needed.

Excellent verbal communication and organizational skills, including welcoming and informative telephone and personal reception etiquette;
Proficiency in computer solutions such as the Microsoft Office Suite and the Google Suite;
Ability to work independently with responsiveness to time-sensitive directives;
Ability to multi-task and maintain a pleasant attitude while interacting with internal and external constituents within a team environment.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experience with internet-based information system such as Ellucian’s Banner;
Experience working with confidential student records;
Experience working with procurement policies and procedures;
Familiarity with eVA for procurement and purchasing;
Experience with scheduling and event planning.

High school graduate or equivalent
Experience working in a high-paced office environment;
