Job Description

Position Summary:
The Environmental Health Specialist will work with the ERIC Lab and Vilas County Environmental Health staff to conduct environmental health inspections and well water testing throughout Vilas County, WI. The Environmental Health Specialist will perform environmental testing and laboratory analysis on a variety of sample matrices related to supporting the environmental health program. The successful candidate will work with both the WI DNR TN Program and the DATCP EH contract program. The Environmental Health Specialist may also mentor student interns. The FTE is being advertised as 1.0 with flexible scheduling and work environment, but a reduction to 0.75 may be possible depending on the needs of the successful candidate. Vehicles will be provided for most travel. Start date is flexible and can be negotiated with the successful candidate. The position is located in Eagle River, WI.

Identifies and develops plans to address safety issues, provides consultation, and tracks and manages cases in a specific area of specialty so all work, recreation, and research can be performed safely and in compliance will all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and standards. Makes recommendations for the control of identified hazards and assesses hazards using relevant regulatory methodologies.

Responsibilities
Reporting to the Viessmann Chair, College of Letters and Science, the Environmental Health Specialist will work with Vilas County Environmental Health staff to conduct environmental health inspections and well water testing throughout Vilas County. The Environmental Health Specialist will interact with community members, facility owners, and the general public to further the mission of the Vilas County Health Department and UW Oshkosh Environmental Health collaboration. The Environmental Health Specialist may also mentor student interns. While the position is advertised as 1.0 FTE, a reduced appointment would be considered.

Secures resources and schedules logistics for a safety program
Identifies operational and safety issues and develops improvement plans and standard operating procedures
Directs logistical activities, allocates resources and investigates components of specific health and safety cases
Communicates findings to necessary stakeholders
Reviews industry updates and may assist in developing safety communication materials based on industry changes
Qualifications


Required:
Bachelors degree in environmental health or related field in hand by start date.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to work independently.

Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

Preferred:
Experience working with a variety of environmental health inspection or well water sampling and analysis techniques.
REHS or RS credential
