Job Description

Confer with patients about their medical histories, stress, and anxiety to determine which therapies will be most helpful for the patient. Applies manual massage techniques with the intention of positively affecting the well being of the patient. Performs gentle manipulations of the soft structures of the body to prevent and alleviate pain, discomfort and stress. Assesses patient to establish specific aromatherapy preferences. Maintains all federal regulations, safety and sanitation requirements, and all OSHA, JCAHO, and HIPAA guidelines. Functions within scope of practice.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide relaxation massage services to patients, answer calls and schedule patients as designated.
  • Clean and sanitize rooms and equipment according to sanitary guidelines and regulations before and after every patient.
  • Break down or set up rooms as required. Performs patient needs assessments and evaluate patient satisfaction.
  • Counsels and trains patients in use of prosthesis.
  • Cross cover patient services.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Graduate from an accredited program resulting in a Diploma or Degree in Massage Therapy or similar field leading to licensure required.

Certifications:

  • Successful completion of State Medical Board Massage Therapist License or successful Certification/completion of State Medical Board Esthetician License of Cosmetology with a Massage Certificate, or similar licensure required.
  • Certificate in Reiki preferred.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years in patient focused environment.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of the fundamentals of massage therapy.
  • Demonstrates effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with patients, family members, nursing team, physicians and other hospital support staff.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time; must lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Requires normal or corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
  • Requires some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
