Job Description

The Nuclear, Waste and Site Services division is hiring a Manager, Field Operations. This position reports to the Waste Operations Manager and is responsible for scheduling, planning, managing, coordinating, and supervising subordinate staff in conduct of hazardous and radioactive waste and materials operations. Oversees the safe and compliant hazardous and radioactive waste collection, packaging, treatment, storage and preparations for off-site shipment.  Leads implementation of the Spill Response Program Plan and supports the Waste Management Trainee qualification program plan.  Works in conjunction with the Nuclear Facility Managers to develop and qualify the AGHCF Hot Cell nuclear technicians in facility operations.  Ensures work force are appropriately trained and have appropriate PPE and equipment to safely perform work.  Serves as primary point of contact for waste operations field services and customer support. 

Duties and Responsibilities

The Field waste operations manager provides direct supervision of professional superintendents, operations supervisors, and skilled trade employees.  Functions as advisor to unit and administers and sets goals and objectives for team member achievement of operational results.  Interprets regulatory requirements and develops and approves for safe implementation field work control processes and procedures.  Demonstrates solid subject matter expert knowledge in ensuring operations are performed safely, effectively implementing ALARA principals.  Leads monthly safety meetings, oversees and performs pre-job briefings, engages and oversees work, and oversees and conducts post job reviews, and instigates off-normal conditions and incidents. 

Responsible for ensuring waste handling, storage and inspection operations at Waste Treatment and Storage facilities are performed in accordance with processes and procedures.   Maintains working knowledge of OSHA 1910, RCRA Part B permit, and the DOE Order 435.1 Radioactive Waste Order.   Exercises good judgement to determine appropriate action.  Supervises staff to assure accountability for safety and positive environmental steward ship.

Must able to demonstrate the flexibility to navigate complex problems to execute the vision, direction, and high performance expectation of leadership.

Ability to obtain and maintain OSHA HAZWOPER and Radiological Worker II Certification.  Must participate and remain in good standing with a required random drug testing program.

Position Requirements

Knowledge of OSHA 1910, RCRA, TSCA, and DOE Order 435.1. 

  • Experience in managing work in accordance with contract and supervise union workers.
  • Experience in safely working in a chemical and/or radiological operational environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to cooperate and communicate well with others.
  • Ability to work with and lead teams.
  • Ability to respond to changing conditions.
  • Good reasoning and analytical skills.
  • Good safety record required.

Successful applicants for this position will have a Bachelor’s Degree and 4 years’ experience or equivalent relevant experience, must provide proof of U.S. citizenship and pass a drug test prior to employment as defined in 10 CFR 707.4.
