Job Description

Assist engineers in development, improving, and construction of rf electronics and amplifiers. Duties include assembly, test, debug, installation, and troubleshooting as well as operation and maintenance of high-power rf systems. Ability to work unsupervised or with minimum of supervision on high-power rf amplifier systems. Must adhere to excellent fabrication practices. Attention to detail and accurate logging and reporting of data are required.

Responsibilities:

Safety, Security, and Environmental Protection: All activities, as they apply to work performed by self or by personnel under supervision, will be executed in compliance with ES&H and security responsibilities established by Argonne National Laboratory’s ES&H policies, Safeguards and Security policies, work rules, and safe practices.

Position Requirements

  • Two-year Associate’s Degree or equivalent plus 5 to 10 years related experience in building, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining high-power (multi-kilowatt) RF amplifiers and associated power equipment and systems, including installation and programming experience with PLC control systems.
  • Considerable knowledge of and experience in construction and testing techniques involved with RF power systems and devices, including component-level testing of solid-state components.
  • Familiar with the use of hand tools, oscilloscope, network analyzer, spectrum analyzer, and RF power meter.
  • Have considerable mechanical aptitude, and a good knowledge of conventional and RF electronics.
