Job Description

Summary

The Student Helper will support research studies in Dr. Yi Zhu’s lab at the Children’s Nutrition Research Center (https://www.bcm.edu/research/faculty-labs/yi-zhu-lab). Zhu Lab uses cell culture and mice to understand metabolic pathways that drive obesity and metabolic diseases. Our research provides critical preclinical testing of new strategies to treat those diseases. We have an active and productive research team. We welcome students who want to get exposed to translational research and aim for graduate school or medical school after college. The student will be mentored and quickly brought up to speed so they can be meaningful contributors to the projects. Students in this position have opportunities to participate in specific research projects and contribute to publications.

Job Duties

  • Assist with mouse colony maintenance and metabolic phenotyping.
  • Molecular biology and cell culture: DNA/RNA/protein extraction, PCR, qRT-PCR, WB, ELISA, Cell imaging.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a High School or College Student (undergraduate or graduate).
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • College student preferred.
