Job Description

The Computer Science Department is seeking a full-time faculty candidate to focus their work on our new Game Design & Development concentration. A successful candidate would be hired at a rank commensurate with their experience: tenure-track Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. Teaching assignments will be in the Computer Science undergraduate program, with a focus on courses in the Game Design & Development concentration during the academic year. Students in this program learn traditional Computer Science concepts while also studying fundamentals of game design and working on multidisciplinary teams to create and release original games. Additional courses for the undergraduate or graduate curriculum in Computer Science are possible and may be offered online or on-campus. The candidate is expected to engage in relevant scholarship that will advance research and creative opportunities for undergraduates.

Duties & Responsibilities: Teaching assignments will be in the Computer Science undergraduate program, with a focus on courses in the Game Design & Development concentration during the academic year, primarily taught on-campus. Also possible are additional opportunities for teaching online graduate courses in related programs.
Minimum Qualifications: PhD in computer science or related field from an accredited university by date of appointment; commitment to excellence in teaching as demonstrated by a teaching statement and/or teaching evaluations.

In the case where a faculty member does not meet the degree requirements described above, the Department of Computer Science considers the following to be appropriate credentials to be qualified to teach courses at the undergraduate and master’s degree level in Computer Science: (1) A high-quality portfolio/resume/vita demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and dispositions appropriate to the assigned course(s), and, (2a) either significant professional experience related to the subject matter being taught (5 or more years) with a record of research, scholarship, creative activity, relevant certifications, or achievement in industry appropriate to the assigned course(s), or (2b) significant instructional experience teaching the subject matter at another accredited university (5 or more years) demonstrating a commitment to educational achievement and improvement through ongoing assessment of student learning appropriate to the assigned course(s).

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching computer science courses strongly preferred; experience teaching game design and/or game development classes; commitment to excellence in teaching as demonstrated by teaching evaluations from at least one year of part-time or full-time teaching gained concurrently or at any time; practical experience in game design and development; effective written and oral communication skills.
