Job Description

Under the general supervision of a Building Maintenance Foreman, the Maintenance Mechanic II performs preventive maintenance, operational functions, and minor repairs to building and utility electrical and mechanical systems and structures (e.g., HVAC, electrical, plumbing). Assists the Maintenance Mechanic I (journeyman level mechanic) in the maintenance and repair of building systems. Employees are responsible for maintaining an acceptable attendance record. Executes all work, as they apply to work performed by self or by personnel under supervision, in compliance with environmental safety health and quality (ESHQ) and security responsibilities established by Argonne National Laboratory's ESHQ policies, Safeguards and Security policies, work rules, and safe practices.  This job description documents the general nature of work but is not intended to be a comprehensive list of all activities, duties and responsibilities required of job incumbent. Position Requirements

Our Facilities Division (FAC) has a great opportunity for a Maintenance Mechanic position. Under general supervision of the Foreman, you will perform preventative maintenance, operational functions, and repairs to building systems; structures and utilities in strict accordance with established safety practices & procedures. 

Position Requirements

Knowledge of the repair, calibration/adjustment diagnosis, defective component replacement, functional test performance, disassembly and overhauling of the following major building systems: 

  • HVAC systems 
  • Building automation systems (Johnson Controls Metasys)
  • Compressed air systems 
  • Steam systems 
  • Plumbing systems 
  • Electrical systems up to and including 480 volt 
  • Emergency generators  
  • Pumps 

High school diploma (or equivalent), 2 years of technical school training, and 3+ years of experience, including computer literacy

Preferred Qualifications

5+ years professional experience in preventative maintenance and repair of two or more of the following major building systems: 

  • HVAC systems 
  • Building automation systems (Johnson Controls Metasys)
  • Compressed air systems 
  • Steam systems 
  • Plumbing systems 
  • Electrical systems up to and including 480 volt 
  • Emergency generators
  • Pumps 
  • Familiar with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
  • Knowledge of NFPA-70E (Electrical Workplace Safety), Lockout / Tagout (LOTO), Zero Voltage Verification (ZVV)

This position can be hired at one of two levels; the selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level (MM1 or MM2) dependent upon the experience level position requirements and preferred qualifications.

MM2: Knowledge of relevant major building systems

MM1: Experience in preventative maintenance and repair of major building systems.

The union negotiated rate of pay for MM1 is $39.74 and MM2 is $32.45.
