The Department of Facilities Management, Operations at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for Supervisor of Operations.

About the Opportunity

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director, or Operations Coordinator, the Supervisor of Operations organizes, schedules, coordinates, and supervises work assignments in the Operations Unit of the Facilities Management Department. This position will supervise all Senior Campus Service Workers, Campus Service Workers, Maintenance Workers and is responsible for cleaning and maintenance in all buildings assigned. The Supervisor of Operations ensures the completion of all custodial services.

What you'll do:

Supervise the daily activity of all Campus Service Workers and Senior Campus Service Workers in general and specific building services functions.
Make frequent evaluations as to the performance of all custodial personnel assigned under their jurisdiction.
Demonstrate to employees the work methods and operations of equipment as required for safe and efficient performance of their duties.
Inspect Campus Service Workers assigned facilities and equipment.
Coordinate repair work with the maintenance unit.
Communicate with students, student staff, and faculty to schedule work and service requests.
Maintain employee time records in accordance with WVU HR, Shared Services and State compensation policy guidelines.
Be responsible for monitoring the electronic time recording system to ensure that employees are paid correctly, and that their sick and vacation balances are routinely reconciled and remain accurate.
Use various software systems to maintain automated inventory of all furnishings, equipment and supplies.
Utilize electronic work order system to order operational supplies.
Ensure materials are received in quantities ordered and periodically checks materials for quality assurance.
Monitor personnel budget expenditures to ensure temp, contracted and fulltime staff are not working in excess of available allotted annual funding.

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED required OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
A minimum of three (3) years of experience involving:
Personnel management.
Working with custodial equipment, chemicals and procedures
Budget management and purchasing experience
Using computers and various software programs
Knowledge and ability to interpret all appropriate safety codes, electrical codes, etc.
Knowledge of warehousing functions.
Knowledge of all types of industrial cleaning equipment and power tools, including proper repair and maintenance of such equipment.
Must have knowledge of building operations management, general maintenance systems, and housekeeping techniques.
Must have supervisory skills and the ability to communicate and resolve employee issues.
Must have the ability to develop detailed records and plans to meet operational needs. Possess the ability to prioritize and delegate duties.
Must have office and organizational skills.
Must be able to effectively manage multiple activities and/or projects simultaneously and work in a high change environment.
Shall be able to gain a working knowledge and understanding of systems throughout the facilities to include HVAC, plumbing, electrical, light, fire, building security, cable TV, data/telephone, and elevator systems.
Must have technical knowledge of blood borne pathogens, molds and hazardous microbes in order to ensure proper disinfection and personal safety.
Must be proficient in various computer software programs such as E-Mail, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Star, and other programs as needed.
Must have effective written and oral communication skills, and the ability to communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Must have excellent customer and employee relations skills
Ability to operate a vehicle.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
Ability to maintain positive customer relations in stressful situations and function as an effective team member.
Ability to train full-time, student, and temporary employees.
Ability to interview and hire a candidate for a position, and to recommend disciplinary action of employees when appropriate.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to understand budget management.
Ability to have excellent eye to hand coordination.
Ability to hear and interpret sounds in work area and verbal instructions.
Ability to use logical problem-solving techniques.
Ability to work with multi-craft personnel.
Ability to stoop, bend, walk, crawl, etc. over rough or slippery surfaces.
Ability to maintain proper attendance and punctuality standards, which includes a dedication to working overtime requirements as operational needs demand.
Ability to maintain average or above average work standards.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
Preferred Qualifications:

Associates degree
One or more years of experience using electronic time management systems.
Three or more years of experience supervising 6 or more employees.
