Job Description

Summary

Baylor College of Medicine’s Behavioral Health Associate provides independent, advanced professional work involving medical and psychiatric social case services in the assessment of students to identify resources to assist with their academic success and well-being. This position reports to the Director of Wellness Intervention and Coordination within the Office of Education Affairs. 

Job Duties

  • Interviews students, collateral reporters, and institutional stakeholders to obtain social history relevant to medical problems and history when a student is referred to the Wellness Intervention Team (WIT).
  • Provides and documents initial impressions about appropriate team response.
  • Provides case management to facilitate an assessment, if warranted, and follow-up with health and/or mental health providers.
  • Coordinates and triages consultations and referrals for students when identified as at-risk.
  • Assists school/program leadership in instances when the Dean/Designee either approves a long-term leave of absence (involuntary, medical) or a return from a leave of absence, as requested.
  • Schedules and convenes WIT meetings, as needed.
  • Establishes WIT meeting agendas and facilitates meeting discussion.
  • Works to ensure appropriate record keeping (e.g., meeting minutes) and information sharing procedures (e.g., in accordance with HIPAA and FERPA).
  • Oversees the case management/support coordination process; 
  • Initiates post-assessment follow-up with student, reporter(s), and academic officials when warranted.
  • Serves as a liaison between students and educational leadership, medical and nursing staff, clients, relatives, and appropriate outside agencies.
  • Provides information regarding wellness and mental health resources for students, trainees, faculty, and staff. 
  • Assists with planning, implementing, facilitating, and evaluating wellness events, workshops, and seminars. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Two years of relevant experience.
  • Licensure as a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT),  Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW),  LCSW-S, or LPC-S.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three years of directly relevant experience in an academic/higher education setting.
  • Licensure as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
