Are you interested in being a part of the Comparative Medicine Core Leadership Team at Moffitt Cancer Center? This is a fantastic opportunity to help build a new team for the existing facility and the new state-of-the-art facility from the ground up.  

 

Position Highlights:  

Moffitt is building a new Comparative Medicine Core (CMC) and is seeking an Associate Director of Husbandry Operations to develop strategic long-term planning processes for Husbandry and Operations to support Moffitt's growing research program in Tampa, Florida. The new Speros campus will have a 30,000 sqft Comparative Medicine state-of-the-art Facility, which will complement MCC’s existing, fully accredited 28,000 sqft facility. As a key member of the CMC team, the Associate Director will develop and manage animal facility procedures, budgetary planning, staff training development, and mentorship. 

 

The Ideal Candidate: 

  • Will have 10 years of direct report management leading other managers and personnel in an animal facility inclusive of seven (7) years' experience directly managing an animal facility that houses complex rodent research models. 

  • Possess excellent working knowledge of animal care regulations, policies, and guidelines to assist in assuring compliance with United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Public Health Services (PHS) standards and maintenance of Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) accreditation. 

  • Possess the ability to mentor, coach, and manage the competencies of a diverse staff. 

  • Stay ahead of current trends and practices in the relevant field of expertise by completing required continuing education. 

 

Responsibilities:  

  • Management of Animal Facility and Staffing – including anticipating programmatic needs as the department grows. 

  • Animal Facilities Policies and Procedures - Develop and implement standardized procedures across facilities to ensure animal care meets or exceeds all federal animal welfare regulations and guidelines.  

  • Animal Facility Space and Equipment Utilization and Maintenance - assists the Director in finding solutions to research needs to support current and future animal facilities and study startups.  

  • Animal Facilities Staff Training – Develops and implements training pathways, ensures direct/indirect reports have development opportunities and provides coaching/mentorship. 

  • Animal Facility Budgetary Planning and Adherence – Develops and designs an annual budget including a per diem cost algorithm to create a transparent overview of costs. 

 

Credentials and Qualifications:  

The candidate must have a master's degree in laboratory animal science (MLAS).
