Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide direct legal support and guidance to the University’s Office of Sponsored Projects Administration (SPA), which involves engaging with them on a regular basis. Review and advise on legal aspects of SPA-related agreements, including, but not limited to, grants, subawards, data transfer and use agreements, and other contracts with government agencies and community partners. Partner with SPA to evaluate the processes and workflow between the offices to enhance efficiencies and effectiveness and to address risk, with the goal of maximizing clarity and minimizing complexity of processes. Perform legal research on SPA-related issues. Maintain a current knowledge of state and federal laws, legal opinions, and other guidance, standards, and practices impacting SPA’s work.
- Draft, negotiate, and review contracts and other documents related to complex business transactions in areas that may include, but are not limited to, procurement, real estate, charter schools, licensing and trademarks, and professional services.
- Support the University’s Office of Research Integrity and Interprofessional Community Clinics with the review, drafting, negotiating, and implementation of HIPAA Business Associate agreements.
- Conduct research of state and federal legislation and administrative and court decisions.
- Provide sound legal advice on wide-ranging legal issues arising in the context of higher education.
- Serve on University committees in an ex-officio capacity.
- Maintain a current knowledge of legal issues of importance to the University through participation in continuing legal education opportunities and membership in appropriate bar and professional associations.
- Effectively prioritize and carry out various projects in an organized and time-sensitive manner.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
