What Your Job Will Be Like: We are seeking a hardworking and dedicated Postdoctoral Appointee to work at the interface between physics- and process based predictive models and large spectral/temporal datasets, to include hyperspectral datacubes as well as persistently collected streams of multi-sensor electromagnetic, infrasound, and seismo-acoustic data. Model driven efforts will include predicting signal source terms, the processes governing them, and their subsequent propagation to deployed sensors, while data driven efforts will include both unsupervised and supervised machine learning approaches to extract interpretable signatures from multiple sensing modalities. Our current research activities include the modeling of hyperspectral chemical signatures and the integration of physics-based models into process digital twins. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Perform self-directed analysis on provided data sets + Present/share results at team meetings with senior staff + Represent Sandia efforts at multi-lab collaboration meetings + Create publications and present results at conferences/workshops The Postdoctoral Appointee works onsite in California. The salary is set for this position at $104,900 annually. Qualifications We Require: + PhD in Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Applied Mathematics or related field + Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance Qualifications We Desire: + Proven experience in computational modeling/simulation + Experience in unsupervised/supervised learning + Proven experience in electromagnetic modeling/simulation + Python programming + Parallel computing About Our Team: The Proliferation Signatures Discovery and Exploitation Department applies deep knowledge of optical sensing techniques to topics of relevance to Sandia and the nation. With backgrounds primarily in laser physics and chemistry, the group focuses on applications in hyperspectral sensing, trace particle detection and attribution and atmospheric measurement and modeling. In addition, the department is working on developing new laser technologies and new laser-based capabilities, such as quantum sensing. The work is supported by various internal and external customers. Security Clearance:

Position Information: This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment. Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
