Summary
Baylor College of Medicine's Ambulatory Operations Team is seeking a Medical Assistant II who is proficient in delivering high level patient care in a fast-paced dynamic ambulatory care setting. The Medical Assistant II performs routine patient care responsibilities, but also very specific in-suite testing procedures in addition to clerical/administrative support in a clinical setting. The Medical Assistant II also provides guidance to other Medical Assistants.
This is an exciting role which involves working with executive and concierge patients, and the highest level of professionalism is required at all times.

Job Duties
- Performs routine patient care responsibilities such as taking vital signs, collect specimens, and POCTs.
- Performs comprehensive testing including routine EKG’s, Placing Heart Monitors, PFT’s. ABI’s, Cognitive testing, and 24 hour pressure monitoring.
- Notes primary complaint/reason for visit.
- Collects patient history, performs medication reconciliation, updates vaccine status and enters information in the electronic medical record.
- Sets up instruments and equipment for physician.
- Assists with procedures as needed.
- Administers medication under direction / order of a supervising physician.
- Instructs patients on general care and medical procedures.
- Maintains patient and service rooms in a neat and orderly condition.
- Schedules patient tests, procedures, and appointments.
- Conducts patient outreach phone calls and post visit follow-ups.
- Performs clerical/administrative responsibilities such as filing and/or scanning patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
- Works with insurance companies on prior-authorizations.
- Takes inventory of clinic supplies and orders supplies as needed.
- Assists with training / orienting new medical assistant staff.
- Delivers staff education, clinical in-services, and/or participates in clinical staff meetings based on the needs of the department and as appropriate for scope of practice for an MA.
- Supports the clinic / departments compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Serves as a subject matter expert and clinical champion for areas of expertise within your specialty and as appropriate for scope of practice for an MA.
- Conducts performance improvement activities that support the clinic's / department' goals for quality, patient experience, patient safety and/or efficiency.
- Sorts and distributes clinic mail and medical records to the appropriate clinic personnel.
- Receives training to schedule and operate the Dexa machine to perform Bone Mineral Density Studies and Dexa fit analysis
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED and completion of a Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
- Two years of relevant experience.
- Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT,NHA, NAHP, or AMCA).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three years of relevant experience as a Medical Assistant.
- Strong customer service skills.
