Job Description

Assign, monitor, direct, train, and evaluate work of Field Facilities Attendants and student employees to ensure cleanliness, attractiveness, and timely set-ups of all athletic, recreation or physical education venues and special events, facilities, courts, or fields.

Ball State Sports Facilities seeks an experienced custodial/event management supervisor. Applicants must have experience in custodial supervision or event management. Ball State Sport Facilities Manages custodial service, event set ups and tear downs and performs outdoor grounds work for all Ball State University Athletic, Recreation and event venues. The Sports Facilities Supervisor plays an integral role in managing service personnel within Sports Facilities and Recreation Services, a part of Ball State Business and Auxiliary Services.

Job Function:

Assign, monitor, direct, train, and evaluate work of Field Facilities Attendants and student employees to ensure cleanliness, attractiveness, and timely set-ups of all athletic, recreation or physical education venues and special events, facilities, courts, or fields.

Minimum Education:

Eighteen months of training or education beyond high school or equivalent.

Preferred Education:

Associate’s degree.

Minimum Experience:

Three through five years of experience in building services and grounds maintenance, including at least one year of first-line supervisory experience; must possess and maintain a valid Indiana Driver’s License and be insurable under the university’s auto fleet policy.

Preferred Experience:

More than one year first-line supervisory experience; experience working with bargaining unit employees; experience working in a high school, university, or sports/recreation environment; personal computer and software proficiency.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, assign, and review daily project work assignments of Field/Facilities Attendants and students.
  • Supervise, monitor, inspect, and coordinate daily operations, including special event set-ups and takedowns, ensuring methods, supplies, and equipment are properly utilized.
  • Assist with the proper allocation of Field Facilities Attendants for specific work assignments necessitated by emergency or special events.
  • Coordinate and inspect proper marking and set-ups of all athletic, recreation or physical education venues, courts, or fields according to established athletic and academic guidelines or standards.
  • Assist with the supervision and coordination of proper operations of Physical Education, Athletic and Recreation facilities and spaces.
  • Maintain records of employees, equipment, and supplies; includes attendance, overtime equalization charts, vacation schedules, performance records, disciplinary action reports, formal documentation, equipment and supplies evaluations, new product recommendations, and building maintenance/repair orders.
  • Orient and train staff, and make recommendations in all areas related to supervision, including but not limited to assisting with compensation, discipline, performance appraisals, training, and career development of Field Facilities Attendants and students.
  • Monitor and report personnel concerns, equipment and supply needs, and the need for maintenance and repair of physical facilities.
  • Monitor and enforce all safety, shop, and university rules and regulations and report problems to the Associate Director of Sports Facilities and Recreation and resolve problems appropriately.
  • Assist with the interviewing and hiring of employees and students as necessary.
  • Act as a liaison with various departments on campus with regard to general maintenance and operational issues.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned..
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
