About the Department
The Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management is a multi-disciplinary department focused on answering critical research questions related to human dimensions of natural and built environments, community health and well-being, and equitable and sustainable tourism. The mission of the Department is to advance and disseminate scholarship concerning the management and use of natural and cultural resources for recreation, tourism, and sport through research, teaching, and public engagement. Essential Job Duties
The Associate Director of Professional Development will serve as the administrator and primary point of contact for the Parks & Recreation Maintenance Management School, the Parks & Recreation Supervisors’ Management School, the Parks & Recreation Revenue Development and Management School (45%), and the Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management (PRTM) undergraduate internship program (55%). Specific responsibilities include:
Management of an internship database for PRTM majors through working with industry stakeholders around the State and Country.
Instruction of PRTM classes regarding internship processes, procedures, and opportunities
Advising of PRTM students in the selection and approval process for internships
Provide department approval of PRTM undergraduate internships
Oversight of student performance during the internship and the completion of internship requirements for credit
Collaborate with PRTM faculty to enhance student internship success
Plan, organize, and lead each professional school’s mid-year planning meeting including, collaboration on site selection with NC State University, National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), and ONTC representatives, communications with partner representatives and school regents, agenda development and distribution, and on-site logistics.
Partner with each professional school’s board of regents to develop the annual teaching schedule and submit to the ONTC.
Ensure the timely scheduling of each professional school’s events in collaboration with the ONTC.
Serve as an ex-officio member of each professional school’s curriculum committee staying informed about current literature and trends related to the management and supervision of employees in parks and recreation settings and recommending curriculum changes.
Conduct annual reviews of each professional school’s curricula to ensure consistency with emerging trends.
Partner with each professional school’s board of regents to develop course materials to ensure consistency in relevance, quality, and presentation.
Oversee course material distribution and availability for each professional school.
Create, administer, and provide technical support for each professional school’s course evaluations and overall school evaluations.
Prepare annual assessment of each professional school’s courses and overall evaluation.
Coordinate the recruitment of new Regents for each professional school in consultation with each school’s regents and the co-partners of each school.
Be prepared to teach at each professional school, in the event of an emergency.
Manage the development and approval of the contents of an Operational Manual of Policies and Procedures for each professional school in consultation with each school’s regents and the co-partners of each school.
Provide consultation and assistance to NRPA and ONTC with the marketing and promotion of each professional school.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
Require post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor’s degree in parks, recreation or related field plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.
Other Required Qualifications
Candidates should have a thorough knowledge of the administration and delivery of parks and recreation programs and services
Excellent organizational skills
Experience working with boards and committees
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Public speaking and presentation experience
Ability to travel extensively
Experience in curriculum development for parks and recreation services.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree and a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience working in parks and recreation or a related industry.
