Job Description

The Department of Bioengineering is seeking an Assistant Director of master's Programs.

The Assistant Director of master's Programs in the Department of Bioengineering will support and functionally report to the Director of the master's Program to maintain, implement and grow the master’s Program. They will administratively report to the Department Administrator.

To accomplish program objectives, this position will also coordinate and work with the Associate Chair of Graduate Studies, the Director of the Center for Medical Innovation, key faculty leaders involved with the Program, and the Department Chair. Close collaboration with other staff members in the Department and the School will be expected, especially for marketing and events.

Key responsibilities will include program management and administration, help recruit students (domestic in-state, domestic out of state, international) by guiding potential applicants through the application and onboarding processes to all Bioengineering Masters Programs, which presently include the Master of Science (MS) in Bioengineering -Medical Product Engineering (MS/MPE) Program, a general non-thesis MS in Bioengineering, the joint MS-MBA with the Katz Business School, the MS with an emphasis in Neural Engineering, and the Certificate in Medical Product Innovation.

Program implementation includes course scheduling (classrooms, instructors) and management including integration with Pitt Information Management systems such as the Course Catalog. Advising enrolled students and maintenance of potential, incoming and outgoing student data and alumni. Program marketing materials development support including website, brochures and presentation preparation support. Program development support will include presence and participation at regional and national conferences for recruitment as required, strategic planning and implementation support, and helping the Director build a sense of community and integration both within and between the program stakeholders: program faculty both core and adjunct, students, internal Pitt collaborators, external to Pitt advisors. The successful incumbent will also support the outgoing graduates and their placement.

The incumbent should be self-motivated, a quick learner, and able to employ a high level of independent judgment and initiative while working under the direction and consent of the Functional and Administrative supervisors and collaborating with other stakeholders. The position requires an adaptive, flexible, energetic, and creative individual with a high degree of professionalism, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work independently and cooperatively as a part of a team. Attention to detail and advanced computer skills are required; experience working with Microsoft Office applications, student information systems, and in higher education graduate level education administration is preferred.

Job Summary
Manages all aspects of graduate and/or undergraduate academic administrative matters. Monitors degree completion progress and keeps accurate records. Performs administrative, advisory, and editorial duties. Manages the department admission process, assists with attracting prospective students, and processes student financial appointments.

Essential Functions
Ability to speak clearly for telephone contact, have manual dexterity to use keyboard and other office equipment, and to occasionally walk to various locations throughout the campus. Incumbent must have the ability to speak in front of groups of incoming students/faculty.

Physical Effort
Generally sedentary, however, this position does require incumbent to occasionally visit industry or other locations throughout the campus. May occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
