General Description:
The David L. Boren College of International Studies at the University of Oklahoma seeks applicants for a full-time tenure-track Wick Cary Assistant Professor of International Security with a starting date of August 15, 2025. While the position is open with respect to substantive specialization within the International Relations subfield of International Security, we have particular interest in candidates with research expertise in United States foreign policy and/or the international security implications of emerging technologies.
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in International Relations and International Security, as well as courses in our on-campus MA in International Studies (MAIS) program. The College has particular teaching needs in the area of United States Foreign Policy at the undergraduate and MA levels, as well as in Policy Analysis and Writing at the MA level. We also have interest in candidates with the ability to teach courses on international security and technology. The candidate will also have the opportunity to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in their specific area of expertise.
The successful candidate will also be expected to develop and maintain a consistent research agenda leading to high-quality academic publications, and to take an engaged role in overseeing and building academic programs in International Relations and International Security.
The Boren College of International Studies offers nine undergraduate degrees to approximately 300 majors and minors, an on-campus MA in International Studies with 25 students, and an online MA in Global Affairs with nearly 150 students. The College hosts a variety of research centers and has 23 full-time faculty with combined strengths in international security, development, and area studies (https://www.ou.edu/cis).
Required and Preferred Qualifications:
Required:
- Ph.D. in Political Science or International Relations in hand, or expected by time of appointment.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct high-quality research in International Security.
- Demonstrated ability or potential to teach courses in International Relations and/or International Security.
Preferences (Not Required):
- One or more publications in relevant peer-reviewed outlets and additional ongoing research in International Security.
- Research expertise in United States Foreign Policy and/or the international security implications of emerging technologies.
- Demonstrated ability or potential to generate external research funding.
- Demonstrated ability or potential to teach courses in United States Foreign Policy, Policy Analysis and Writing, and/or courses on international security and technology.
- Excellence in teaching and in supporting student success.
