What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking an Environment, Safety and Health Professional to join our team.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Assist management in implementing and assuring ES&H performance and compliance.
- Develop, implement and communicate organization-specific ES&H policies, processes, hazard controls and tools to help staff and management meet performance expectations.
- Perform regular facility and work area walk-throughs, inspections and work planning and control reviews to determine reliability and effectiveness of risk mitigations.
- Help customers understand and comply with applicable ES&H facility, operations, data collection and reporting requirements.
- Review work plans and hazard controls to determine reliability and effectiveness.
- Develop and implement risk mitigation plans and strategies.
- Provide support during ES&H audits and assessments.
- Make recommendations for development of policies, processes and tools that contribute to improved safety practices.
- Implement corporate safety initiatives and regulatory and policy updates.
- Support management with ES&H related events, occurrences or emergencies to ensure they are adequately investigated, tracked and corrected.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range:
$70,200 - $157,500
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate\'s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical or Industrial Safety/Hygiene discipline; or equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
- Experience in work planning & control processes, hazard analysis, and hazard control mitigation methods.
- Familiarity with OSHA, NFPA, and other regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word) and the ability to quickly learn and use a variety of ES&H tools
Qualifications We Desire:
- Ability to compile and analyze data from incidents, accidents, and near misses to identify causes or trends in support of continuous improvement and ongoing prevention efforts.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment with division and matrixed personnel.
- Proven ability to optimally understand, synthesize, and translate crucial information to all levels of management.
- Demonstrated strong customer-oriented mindset and approach.
- Strong desire for professional certification in a relevant discipline (e.g., Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist).
- DOE L/Q clearance
- Proven record of acting at strategic and tactical levels in response to changing events and direction Excellent communications skills, including both writing and verbal skills
- Knowledge of applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration, National Fire Protection Association, Code of Federal Regulations, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), and other environmental, occupational health, and safety local, state, and federal regulations and requirements.
- Ability to track actions items, provide presentations to all levels of staff and management, and lead projects.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communications skills working with a diverse team ranging from skilled laborers to engineers/scientists and executive management.
- Master’s degree in technical or ES&H-related discipline.
- Experience with hazardous operations and controls including the following; electrical, pressure, lasers, thermal, chemical, LN2, etc.
- Experience in Sandia work planning & control processes, hazard analysis, and hazard control mitigation methods.
- Ability to compile and analyze data from incidents, accidents, and near misses to identify causes or trends in support of continuous improvement and ongoing prevention efforts.
About Our Team:
Department 00636 provides ES&H coordinator support to Division 5000 and 10000. The goal of this organization is to effectively integrate safety into daily operations. Department personnel support and facilitate the implementation of ES&H requirements and processes and assist in the identification and analysis of any hazards, threats and risks which may create an unsafe worksite. We collaborate with ES&H subject matter experts to translate corporate policy requirements into line implementation plans and to formulate engineering and administrative controls to mitigate hazards, threats and risks. The department also supports assurance activities through self-assessments, causal analysis, and performance monitoring.Our approach is positive, proactive, and encompasses the life cycle of operational activities. The end goal is to enable line management to execute mission objectives while balancing the needs for operational excellence.

Security Clearance:
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
Position Information:
This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia\'s discretion up to a maximum of seven years.
Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
