Position Description:

The Department of Chemistry within the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Louisville invites applications for a dynamic and visionary leader for the position of Department Chair. The ideal candidate should be a collaborative and inspiring leader, who supports and encourages a culture of research, instruction, and service activities and fosters a climate of collaboration and collegiality. The Department of Chemistry offers B.A., B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees.

The Department seeks to increase its stature and reputation nationally and internationally by expanding its missions in research and instruction. The Department Chair will carry out administrative duties and be responsible for working with the department faculty and staff in an open and participatory manner. The Chair must be committed to high-quality undergraduate and graduate education, have a proven track record of leadership, have prior demonstrated excellence in teaching and research, act as a champion for the department's diverse teaching and research programs, and work collaboratively with the other departments and Dean’s office within the College of A&S on strategic goals. Applicants who can demonstrate a commitment and prior high-impact success with fostering diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence at the classroom, department, and university level are desirable. The position requires a PhD in Chemistry or a related field, credentials for appointment as a full professor of Chemistry, significant research experience as demonstrated by vigorous pursuit and acquisition of research grants and scientific publications, high quality instruction as demonstrated by a successful track record of teaching undergraduate/graduate courses and mentoring undergraduate/graduate students, and significant and successful service experience in administration or other major leadership roles at the department, college, or university level.

The start date is July 1, 2025.

The University of Louisville is a state-supported research university located inKentucky's largest metropolitan area. The Department of Chemistry is on the 287-acre Belknap Campus three miles from downtown Louisville. The University offers a School of Medicine and the J.B. Speed School of Engineering in addition to traditional natural sciences for potential collaborations and synergistic activities. There are exciting research centers on campus, including the Center for Regulatory and Environmental Analytical Metabolomics (CREAM), Conn Center for Renewable Energy Research, Micro/Nano Technology Center, Electrooptics Research Institute, and the Nanotechnology Center (ERINC). Additional facilities include research computing, which is receiving $4.1 million investment this year, the Delphi Center which provides support for the development of new and innovative teaching practices, and the brand-new 165,000 sq. ft. Belknap Academic Classroom Building (BAB) fitted with the latest active learning environment technology.
