Position Summary:

City of Hope is seeking a skilled and experienced PICC Nurse to join our healthcare team. The PICC Nurse is responsible for the assessment, insertion, and management of peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC lines) to ensure safe and effective intravenous access for patients requiring long-term IV therapy. This role includes patient education, coordination with the healthcare team, and adherence to infection control and safety protocols. The schedule for this opportunity is per diem, 10-hour shifts, and 7:00am start time. The per diem flat rate for this position is $75.97/hr. There is a minimum of 1 shift per week availability required for per diem positions.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Assess patients to determine the need for PICC line placement.
  • Perform ultrasound-guided PICC line insertions, ensuring proper placement and functionality.
  • Adhere to sterile technique and infection prevention protocols during line insertion.
  • Evaluate patient history, diagnosis, and treatment plan to select the appropriate vascular access.
  • Monitor PICC lines for complications such as infection, occlusion, or thrombosis.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure appropriate PICC line management.
  • Educate patients and families on the care and maintenance of PICC lines, including how to prevent infection.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of PICC line placement, assessment, and management in the patient's medical record.
  • Report any complications or issues related to PICC lines to the medical team promptly.
  • Work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, nurses, and pharmacists, to develop and execute patient care plans.
  • Coordinate with radiology and laboratory departments for imaging and blood work related to PICC line insertion and maintenance.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Graduate from nursing school with a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing and currently enrolled in a BSN program (must obtain BSN within two years of hire or transfer).
  • Current California RN license
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in an acute care setting and/or outpatient setting, preferred background in oncology nursing
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Card through American Heart Association
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a caring and empathetic demeanor
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced clinical setting
