This position is eligible for flexible work arrangements, including remote/hybrid work. Fayetteville State University employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

Primary Purpose of the Position:
The IT Database Administrator III at Fayetteville State University is responsible for designing, documenting, configuring, implementing, and managing databases and data governance frameworks to support various applications and processes. This individual ensures the integrity, availability, and security of data through the development and enforcement of database and data governance policies and procedures. The role involves planning and developing database architectures and data governance strategies, as well as troubleshooting data-related issues for users. The IT Database Administrator III advises management on database and data governance concepts, functional capabilities, parameters, and prototypes. Extensive skills and experience in database architecture, data governance, data quality, compliance, and data lifecycle management are required. The IT Database Administrator III supports specific applications and responds to incidents reported by ITS tier-one support and monitoring systems. This position requires an in-depth understanding of Banner ERP information systems and modules.
Operational Management – 65%
Address and resolve database access, data quality, and performance issues. Monitor database and database system details, including stored procedures, execution time, data quality, and compliance, and implement efficiency improvements. Plan and coordinate data migrations between systems. Develop, implement, and maintain change control and testing processes for modifications to databases and data governance frameworks. Conduct data audits and security assessments. Establish appropriate end-user database and data access control levels. Develop routines for end users to facilitate best practices in database use and data governance. Understand the needs and requirements of the applications using the databases and data and provide support for these applications. Manage multiple applications accessing the same database and data sources. Write and debug lines of SQL code for applications. Assist with the implementation of new software and upgrades of existing software. Instruct data administration to ensure data quality. Create or support creation of required reports in response to business user needs. Other duties as assigned.
Strategy & Planning – 35%
Assess and develop long-term strategic goals for databases and data governance in collaboration with data owners and department managers. Work with application staff to develop database architectures, data governance frameworks, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures. Assist in developing and testing a disaster recovery and business continuity plan. Identify and prioritize system functions required to promote continuity and availability of critical business processes, enabling prompt recovery in case of system failure. Conduct research and make recommendations on database and data governance products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements:
A master’s degree in computer science, computer information systems, computer engineering, or a closely related field with two to four years of experience in database management/data integration OR a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer information systems, computer engineering, or a closely related field with three to five years of experience in data management/data integration OR an Equivalent combination of education or experience. All degrees should be from an appropriately accredited institution.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
3+ years of experience in database administration, including database design, implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
3+ years of experience in data governance, data quality management, and compliance.
Experience with cloud-hosted applications and environments.
Experience in developing disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
Knowledge of data governance frameworks and best practices.
Understanding of data security standards and practices.
Proficiency in SQL and experience with database management systems such as Oracle Database
Experience with data modeling, data warehousing, and ETL processes.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
Excellent interpersonal and consultative skills
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Proven project planning and management experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a closely related degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in database management / data integration. Four years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education (7 years total).
