Position DescriptionThe Department of Mathematics at Texas State University seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor with research specialization in Applied Mathematics, with a start date of Fall 2025.
The successful candidate is expected to establish and maintain a strong record of high-quality research in applied mathematics (applications to natural sciences, data science, computational sciences, medical sciences, or other related areas). The successful candidate will teach mathematics or applied mathematics courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and will show dedication to mentoring students. The successful candidate will also participate in self-governance of the department through service to the department, college, or university or engage in service to the mathematical community.
The Department of Mathematics is a growing department with a broad range of strengths in Analysis, Topology, Algebra, Combinatorics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Logic, and Mathematics Education. The department is excited to start its new Ph.D. program in mathematics in Fall 2025 to complement its Ph.D. program in mathematics education and its master’s programs.
The department strives to create a welcoming environment that invites students from a wide range of backgrounds to major in mathematics and we invite applicants who are enthusiastic about mentoring students at undergraduate and graduate levels to reach their potential in mathematics.
The department is dedicated to success of its junior faculty, providing support through formal mentoring, reduced teaching and service loads, collaboration and collegiality, and opportunities to participate in university-wide professional development programs.
The selected candidate will be given the appropriate rank based on college and university regulations.
Required Qualifications
Required Qualifications (Assistant Professor):
1. An earned doctorate in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field prior to employment.
2. Evidence of or potential for research excellence in Applied Mathematics.
Recent publications will be emphasized, but all publications will be considered.
3. Evidence of or potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring students.
4. An ability to contribute to the departmental mission.
Required Qualifications (Associate Professor):
1. An earned doctorate in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field prior to employment.
2. Evidence of research excellence in Applied Mathematics. Recent publications will be emphasized, but all publications will be considered.
