The MFA in Dance Program is looking for an adjunct faculty member to teach
DANCE-591/593 Choreography IV/V in January 2025.
Adjunct Professor in MFA in Dance: Creative Practice
Position Description:
The MFA in Dance is seeking an adjunct faculty member to teach the combined Choreography IV/V course during the 2025 January term. The instructor must be available to teach from January 3rd-26th, with in person modality from the 6th-17th on campus in Moraga. This course is a combination of movement, performance lecture and faculty and student driven feedback.

January Term, 2025, January 3-26, 2025.
In-Person SMC Campus Course Times: 2:00-6:00 pm M-F January 6th-17th.
Course Description:
This course is a hybrid course which meets for two weeks in person on campus, and asynchronously for a week and a half with a final zoom course meeting on the last day of class. The course instructs a student on the study of making dances focusing on individuality, finding their voice, working with other students in the course, developing choreographic strategies and experimenting with new ways of movement. Improvisation, collaboration, and choreographic theory will be discussed to assist in the choreographic process.
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  • Demonstrate in both the live/embodied as well as the written
    presentations of the work, clear aesthetic vision, conceptual basis,
    intention and identity;
  • identify specific models for creating movement and use these to
    develop methodology for teaching choreography;
  • develop research methods and show the ability to engage in critical
    reflection and conceptual thinking about one's own work and the work
    of peers;
  • develop choreographic skills and a personal style that demonstrates
    original works, knowledge of compositional techniques,
    choreographic range and effective conceptualization and conveyance
    Qualifications:
    Applicants must have an MA, MFA or other terminal degree in the appropriate field or equivalent knowledge and experience in the field of dance or creative practice. They must demonstrate a strong commitment to student-centered teaching in the liberal arts tradition, and show evidence of teaching effectiveness among graduate students. Prior teaching experience and/or professional experience is preferred.
    Salary: $7,447-$10,308 dependent on qualifications. The salary range for this position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available here.
    Candidates must reside in California.
