Qualifications:
Environmental Problems (EES 300) will connect Theory, Inquiry and Application and will examine and act upon relationships between social and political communities and nature. In order to understand these relationships and the dynamics, that underlie environmental problems and their solutions, this course helps students to build a critical and practical understanding of qualitative environmental research. Students will explore three interrelated dimensions of research: theoretical foundations of social scientific research on environmental problems, specific methods available to researchers for data collection and analysis, and the application and practice of research methods. In addition to exploring the key elements of environmental research design, students will consider some basic social science data collection protocols for conducting environmental field research, including but not limited to questionnaires, in-depth interviews, ethnography, community-based research approaches, document and content analyses. Questions of research justice will animate seminars, readings, exercises and assignments.
This lecture also includes a laboratory (EES 300L). This lecture and lab will be taught in person on the Moraga campus during the 2025 Spring term:
Lecture: Monday and Wednesday, 1:30 - 3:10 pm (3 units)
Laboratory: Wednesday, 3:30 - 5:30 pm alternating weeks (1 unit)
In addition to teaching, the instructor is expected to hold regular office hours (a minimum of one hour per week) in order to provide students with support outside of the classroom.
Candidates must have a Master's or Ph.D. preferred in a relevant area of Environmental or Earth Science discipline and a successful record of teaching experience in a related field at the undergraduate level. Preference will be given to those who have previously taught the lecture or EES 115.
Candidates must reside in California.
The salary range for this position is $6,208 - $8,590 (4 units) and is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available here.
