Position Description:

The University of Louisville (UofL) Kornhauser Health Sciences Library invites applications from creative and self-motivated candidates for the position of clinical librarian, providing information and research support to the students, staff, researchers, teaching faculty, and practicing clinicians of the UofL Health Sciences Campus.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Building collaborative relationships within clinical departments to support information literacy, research, and evidence-based practice, with emphasis on the School of Public Health and Information Sciences.
• Providing library services and instruction to users in their environments, typically outside the library
• Collaborating with faculty, residents, or students on journal clubs, seminars, research projects, and other clinical forums
• Serving on and providing information support for the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)
• Providing timely information as requested using current technology and resources
• Keeping users informed of developments with emerging technologies, trends, and best practices for information in health sciences
• Providing reference services in person and through virtual platforms
• Engaging in research, scholarly activity, and service to the university, community and profession
• Committing to inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility within librarianship, teaching, research, scholarly communications, and professional development

Required Qualifications:

• Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program in library or information science by the time of hire. Advanced degrees in public health, bioinformatics, data science, or other relevant discipline with demonstrated interest and/or expertise in health scienceslibrarianship, may also be considered.
• Knowledge of biomedical and evidence-based practice literature, research, and tools
• Commitment to supporting individuals with diverse backgrounds, values, and identities
• Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship building skills
• Demonstrated ability to think and react quickly, including evidence of initiative and flexibility with planning and problem solving
• Ability to use current technologies and learn new tools for delivering library services
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently
• Potential to meet scholarly activity and service expectations for promotion and tenure

Desirable Qualifications

• Experience in a health sciences library or other health sciences background
• Experience working with users in their environments, as opposed to the traditional library setting
• Experience working within the clinical or academic health sciences environment
• Experience on or knowledge of research ethics committees, such as IRB or IACUC
• Knowledge of data management and/or experience with data collection tools such as REDCap
• Experience with evidence synthesis projects, methodologies, and tools, such as Covidence
• Experience using LibGuides and/or other SpringShare products
• Experience using EndNote or similar citation management software
• Additional graduate degree or certification in a related discipline

This is a full-time, tenure-track position reporting to the Associate Director-Clinical Services of the Kornhauser Health Sciences Library. The anticipated initial rank is Instructor or Assistant Professor. The entry rank and salary of the successful candidate are dependent on experience and qualifications, starting at a minimum of $55,000/year for Instructor. Promotion and tenure require demonstration of scholarship and successfully satisfying other criteria. Kornhauser Health Sciences Library is located at the downtown Health Sciences Center campus, three miles north of the main university campus. Comprised of the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, and Public Health, as well as UofL Hospital, this campus is home to over 50% of the university faculty and receives 90% of grant funding.
