As a successful candidate, you will:
This position will work collaboratively with data teams, clinicians, researchers, and business leaders across the City of Hope enterprise to understand data needs. This position will ensure that the design of data systems represents these needs and is optimal to achieve Clinical, Business and Research goals and outcomes. This position will be responsible to leverage cloud data architecture information systems through designing processes for data models, standard terminologies, metadata and clinical decision support elements. This role will use enterprise development, testing and analysis tools including Cloud ( Azure, AWS etc.), Snowflake SQL, ETL (Enterprise-Transform-Load)ELT, Business Glossary, Meta-data, Data Lineage, , CDC (Change Data Capture), and enterprise modeling tools. In addition, this role will be responsible for integration of City of Hope data with standard healthcare terminology sets such as CPT, SNOMED, ICD9/10, and RxNorm, etc. This role will use data integration, transformation, analysis, and query tools to help members of City of Hope with clinical, research and business analysis of data. Through an understanding of this data, this position will design architectures, and federate data from large enterprise systems and make that data available for informed decision making, reporting, analysis, and data mining.
The Senior Data Warehouse Architect will also mentor and guide the less senior resources in the team. As part of the responsibilities, the individual is expected to technically lead projects and efforts; provide strategic and tactical input to management; translate incoming business requirements into technical architectural solutions, as well as help define the short term and long-term roadmap of the enterprise Data Warehouse Architecture.
- Data integration & engineering using modern enterprise development toolsets (e.g. ETL, ELT, MDM, Quality, CDC, Data Masking)
Responsible for cloud data integration architecture, development, testing, data quality, and on-going auditing.
Conducts detailed requirements gathering and analyzes information obtained to translate customers’ objectives into a detailed technical implementation plan. - Designs and supports multi-dimensional models, including the construction of data views, dimensions, measures, filters, hierarchies and cubes while adhering to standard development methodologies.
Serves as an expert resource and consultant for all areas of cloud data integration with regard to data collection, standards, management, governance, retrieval, and use as well as design and use of data elements and tools. - Provides data modeling and architecture expertise for complex projects.
Collaborates with data architects, database administrators and other team members to understand dimensional requirements and translate into functional specifications. - Designs data marts and develops scheduled and ad-hoc parameterized queries and reports from a variety of data sources and provides on-going analytical support for these requests. Converts existing reporting tools to a standardized reporting infrastructure.
- Accurately scopes, defines and estimates work effort and resource plan for assigned projects.
- Determines testing needed to assure the accuracy of information being delivered by creating test plans and evaluate testing results.
- Identifies data quality issues and support the data governance initiative by participating in necessary activities including data profiling.
Forecasts and analyzes data and trends to create reports that highlight areas needing improvement. - Participates in On Call after hours support (24/7) coverage as required.
- Data Design and Optimization:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data experts, clinicians, and business leaders, to understand data needs.
Create robust, high-performance data architectures that align with clinical, business, and research goals.
Leverage cloud technologies (such as Azure and AWS), Snowflake SQL, ETL/ELT processes, and enterprise modeling tools. - Standardization and Integration:
- Integrate City of Hope data with standard terminologies (CPT, SNOMED, ICD9/10, RxNorm).
Ensure data models, metadata, and clinical decision support elements are aligned with best practices.
Implement data lineage and change data capture (CDC) mechanisms. - Empowering Decision-Making:
- Transform raw data into actionable insights through analysis, querying, and reporting.
Federate data from large enterprise systems, making it accessible for informed decision-making and data mining. - Mentoring and Leadership:
- Guide junior team members, sharing your expertise and fostering growth.
Lead technical projects, provide strategic input, and contribute to the long-term roadmap of the enterprise Data Warehouse Architecture.
Your qualifications should include:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a Health Science, Computer Science, Information Systems or related discipline
- Experience may substitute for minimum education requirements
- 10 years of demonstrated expert knowledge developing SQL, stored procedures, views, MDM (Master Data Management), and ETL (Extract Transform, Load).
- 10 years of experience with data aspects of information system design, modeling, and implementation
- 10 years of experience with relational and dimensional data modeling - including constructing database normalization; utilizing data modeling tools to record, update, reverse engineer and generate DDL; creating logical and physical data models for current and proposed states
- 10 years demonstrated experience and expert knowledge supporting statistical and predictive analytic modeling with large datasets.
- 7 or more years of data or information architecture experience in an enterprise environment (prefer healthcare and clinical research).

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $60.19 - $96.31 / hour
The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
