Job Description

Under the direction of the Dean, the Associate Dean leads core responsibilities related to faculty including hiring, promotion and tenure, research development, Faculty loads, and grants. Oversees college strategic planning; supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of innovative practices aimed at enhancing impact: assists in preparing, monitoring, projecting, and revising the college budget.

The Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Strategic Initiatives is a critical leader within the college. Teachers College has a century-long legacy of preparing educators through student-centric learning experiences and is home to groundbreaking research that is advancing the field of education.
The college transforms bright, ambitious learners into educational leaders who are sensitive and responsive to diversity and the contextual foundations of teaching, learning, and human development.
Teachers College enrolls nearly 5,000 students across six departments. It collaborates extensively with other Ball State colleges and has launched several new undergraduate and graduate degree and certificate programs on campus and online to meet the changing needs of both the job market and adult learners.

Job Function:

Under the direction of the Dean, the Associate Dean leads core responsibilities related to faculty including hiring, promotion and tenure, research development, Faculty loads, and grants. Oversees college strategic planning; supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of innovative practices aimed at enhancing impact: assists in preparing, monitoring, projecting, and revising the college budget.

Minimum Education:

Doctorate degree in a field of or related to education from an accredited institution.

Minimum Experience:

Experience working with data and assessment summaries for at least one academic year (8 months).

Preferred Experience:

Two years of successful administrative experience in higher education at the level of program director, program coordinator, assistant department chair, department chair, or associate/assistant dean, experience with outcome-based project management.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a member of the Teachers College Leadership Team.
  • Oversee strategic planning, the Promotion and Tenure Committee, Environmental and Sustainability Committee, the College Salary Committee, the functions and budgets of assigned areas, and promotion and tenure.
  • Generate and collaboratively review data on faculty engagement in research. Develop and execute plans for supporting research engagement. Monitor and provide leadership with grants, contracts, and sponsored programs related to Teachers College.
  • Supervise faculty workload including load reports, special assigned leaves, reassigned time for research, and other non-instructional loads. Review data and collaboratively develop plans to increase the impact of faculty time on student success, scholarship, and service. Work closely with academic department chairs around faculty support and expectations.
  • Attend and represent Teachers College as Dean’s designee when assigned. such as at state and professional society meetings and internal/external functions.
  • Monitor recruitment, enrollment, and retention and collaborate in discussions about program development, change, and elimination related to short- and long-term revenue generation.
  • Assist the dean and Director of Budget and Resource Planning in forecasting budgetary needs and recommending appropriate resource allocations.
  • Coordinate and envision global partnerships with businesses, universities, and other entities, e.g., museums, scientific agencies, including the Center for Economic and Civic Learning (CECL) and the Center for Gifted Studies and Talent Development.
  • Collect information and write reports for internal and external audiences.
  • Coordinate position development and processing in conjunction with the Director of Budget and Resource Planning.
  • Conduct annual personnel evaluations for assigned areas and propose salary increases when funds are available.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
