Job Description
The Applied Materials Division at Argonne National Laboratory has an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Appointee. The candidate will be responsible for developing analysis models, performing numerical simulations, designing test devices or facilities, and conducting experimental tests of various elemental parts, functional components, and structures for applications in concentrating solar power, thermal energy storage, and other energy systems. The research focus is on their thermal performance and heat transfer functioning.
The candidate will collaborate with ANL staff to review, validate, and enhance methods and models for predicting the thermal and mechanical performance of various structural components, develop lab-scale prototypes, and verify their performance under targeted operation conditions. Structural component materials of interest include metal alloys, ceramics, and ceramic matrix composites. The goal is to engineer reliable structural components and systems with desired thermal and mechanical functions through theoretical analyses, numerical simulations, and experimental tests. The candidate will also contribute to technical reports, conference papers, and journal publications, and present findings at technical conferences.
