JOB DETAILS:
This Admissions Counselor position assists prospective students in navigating the college selection process. This is a 12-month, full-time position that reports to the Assistant Director of Admissions, and will be responsible for recruiting, admitting and enrolling a talented and diverse student body from Milwaukee County. This position will establish and maintain relationships with prospective students, parents, and high school counselors and will handle application review and admission decisions for students from Milwaukee County. In addition to general admission duties, this position is responsible for developing and implementing targeted outreach efforts to students from historically underrepresented backgrounds. The individual will present information to prospective students during scheduled daily visit presentations, will assist during campus open house events, and will perform other duties as assigned by the director/assistant director. This position will organize the Wheels to Whitewater program which hosts around 5 schools per semester. Domestic travel is required, especially during the fall and spring recruitment seasons.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:

Earned Bachelor's degree
Valid driver's license (or ability to obtain a valid driver's license)
Minimum of one-year experience in admissions, recruitment, higher education, K-12 system or marketing related field
Strong written communication and public speaking skills
Preferred Qualifications:

Fluency in Spanish and/or a second language
Strong organizational and event planning skills
Professional experience working with students and/or individuals from diverse backgrounds
Experience with use of CRM (customer relationship management) systems, particularly Slate
Familiarity with student information systems, particularly PeopleSoft
Effective interpersonal skills and ability to establish positive relationships with students, staff and faculty
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to interact respectfully with people with diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background
Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following examples of duties and responsibilities illustrate the general range of tasks assigned to the position, but are not intended to define the limits of required duties. Other essential duties may be assigned consistent with the general scope of the position.

General Duties:

Market, recruit and provide customer support to new freshman prospects and applicants through face-to-face interactions, small and large group presentations, educational fairs, high school visits, telephone and email inquiries, and other outreach events. This includes extensive travel primarily in Wisconsin.
Establish working relationships with high school counselors in the assigned regions.
Coordinate prospective student programming to further develop the commitment to UWW.
Create and implement effective communication strategies using the CRM and other venues of outreach.
Use data and current trends to strategically market to and recruit high school students within designated region.
Review applications and make admission decisions for territory applicants and other applicants as needed.
Specific Duties:

Travel to and recruit students at college fairs and high schools in assigned territories.
Assist and monitor student application processing and data entry.
Review applications and make admission decisions in a fair manner, consistent with university and office policy.
Organize, coordinate, and execute the Wheels to Whitewater visit program, in which we welcome around 5 schools to visit campus each fall and spring. Facilitate outreach to high schools and collaborate with campus partners to provide a positive and comprehensive visit experience.
Aid in the selection of various scholarships, such as the King/Chavez Scholarship.
Field telephone and email inquiries from potential students and families and deliver informational presentations to students who come to campus for a tour.
Meet with prospective students and their parents during campus visits.
Collaborate with community-based organizations such as All-In Milwaukee and College Possible Wisconsin.
Be familiar with university policies and procedures, especially Housing, Financial Aid, First Year Experience, and Center for Students with Disabilities, to communicate effectively with prospects.
Participate in professional organizations, conferences and workshops when appropriate.
Serve as the Admissions liaison for the TRIO and Educational Opportunities programs.
Additional duties as prescribed by the Assistant/Director of Admissions.
