The Center for Career Development in the John Chambers College of Business and Economics at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) Career Development Program Coordinator.

About the Opportunity

As a (Hybrid) Career Development Program Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in integrating career and professional development into the academic experience within the John Chambers College of Business and Economics. You will be responsible for managing a wide range of coaching services, programming/workshop delivery, student engagement, and internal relationship development. You will oversee all career development efforts that fall under the purview of their Subject Matter Expert (SME) areas and career development activities that support current and future student engagement initiatives in the CCD. Additionally, you will have expanded ownership and responsibilities associated with managing strategic initiatives of the unit.

What You'll Do

SME Model:

Develop mutually beneficial partnerships with internal leadership, faculty within assigned SME areas, and relevant student organizations.
Establish student engagement goals in conjunction with Academic Department Chair in assigned SME areas.
Create a continuous communication loop with the assigned employer relations team member and employers recruiting their target majors to ensure the guidance and advice they provide reflects ever-changing industry demands.
Identify and connect with alumni and prospective employers to increase the diversity of employer recruiting from targeted employers.
Develop relevant and engaging content/resources to be featured on the CCD website.
Participate in conversations with prospective students and parents to demonstrate the ROI of various undergraduate majors.
Coordinate and chaperone employer visits.
Drive response rates for internship and first-destination surveys; utilize findings to make data-driven decisions about future programming.
Career Coaching/Career Development:

Coach students and alumni regarding career decision-making, experiential learning opportunities, full-time professional job search strategies, graduate/professional school, and career/life planning.
Develop a strong rapport with students and begin instilling the importance of career planning during academic year and beyond.
Meet with students through group settings, individual appointments, and drop-in hours.
Review resumes, cover letters, and other professional documents (in person and electronically) and provide highly tailored feedback.
Benchmark with peer institutions to obtain new and effective ways to deliver career and professional development advice.
Conduct mock interviews and provide personalized feedback.
Employer/Alumni Relations:

Identify prospective employers based on student interest, curriculum alignment, and faculty research areas.
Facilitate guest speakers, including representatives from key employer partners.
Participate in site visits, on-campus meetings/events, and career fairs.
Solicit direct feedback from employers relative to their ideal candidate qualifications and the quality of student preparedness and areas needing improvement.
Connect students with alumni/employers willing to serve as ad hoc career advisors or mentors.
Strategic Initiatives/Partnerships:

In collaboration with the director and assistant director, develop and execute strategic priorities of the unit. Cultivate campus-wide partnerships, such as with the Purpose Center, to increase access to resources for Chambers College students and alumni.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in counseling, higher education, communication, business management, human resources, marketing, or related field.
A minimum of two (2) years of experience in career services, advising, recruiting, talent management or similar experience
Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
