Position Description:

The Professor and Associate Dean will facilitate the research and scholarship efforts of the faculty and support the research mission of the School of Nursing and University of Louisville. As part of the administrative team, it is expected that they will also support the academic and practice missions of the university.

Minimum Qualifications

Earned doctorate in nursing or a health-related discipline, record of professional, community and university service; record of funded research and scholarly activity as a principal investigator; experience in the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs of research; strong leadership and organizational abilities; effective interpersonal skills. Eligible to receive federally funded grants. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States. The School of Nursing is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of a work visa for this position.

Previous administrative experience preferred.

Formal Accountability

Reports directly to the Dean of the School of Nursing. The position will have at least 50% time allocated to this position. It is expected that the selected candidate will have an active and on-going funded program of research.

Job Description

The Associate Dean for Research and Scholarship shall:

  • Collaborate with the Dean of the School of Nursing (SON) and other colleagues to integrate the research mission in the School of Nursing and advance the SON strategic plan.

  • Be responsible for annual and on-going evaluation of tenured and tenure-track faculty.

  • Advise the Dean of the School of Nursing on research matters, offering expert guidance and insights.

  • Work collaboratively with academic associate deans to determine faculty assignments.

  • Provide fiscal oversight to the School of Nursing Research Office.

  • Provide leadership for the ethical conduct of research in the School of Nursing.

  • Facilitate the acquisition of resources and refine resource management strategies to fulfill the research mission of the School of Nursing.

  • Lead the collaborative process of identifying and refining the SON’s area(s) of distinction.

  • Mentor and support faculty in the development of research programs appropriate to rank that further scholarship within the identified area(s) of distinction.

  • Identify existing and generate new interdisciplinary research collaborations within the University and with community agencies, state, and other appropriate entities.

  • Participate in an ongoing program of research.

  • Serve as resource to faculty in matters related to the research component of the curriculum.

  • Serve as voting member of the Research and Scholarship Committee.

  • Collaborate with the other Associate Deans to support the academic and practice and service missions through the integration of research.

  • Refine and maintain a system for grant proposal submission for external funding.

  • Disseminate information related to research activities and available resources at the School of Nursing and the University, and in the community.

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate outcomes of the strategic objectives for the School of Nursing research mission in collaboration with faculty and administration.

  • Supervise and evaluate graduate research assistants.

  • Cultivate and maintain an environment that enhances faculty development, opportunities, and abilities in research endeavors.

  • Collaborate with the Dean to allocate income generated from faculty research.

  • Represent the School of Nursing’s research agenda when attending various University committees.

  • Foster a culture of innovation and creativity in research and scholarship encouraging the implementation of novel approaches to enhance faculty satisfaction and engagement.

  • Provide leadership to maximize the use of personnel, materials, and financial resources dedicated to research programs.

  • Represent the School of Nursing at designated university meetings.

  • Serve as a key member of the senior leadership/dean's office team, actively contributing to strategic decision-making.
