Job Summary
The primary responsibility of the position is the development, delivery, management and direct supervision of outdoor recreation and special event programs. Additional responsibilities include assisting in the day-to-day management and operation of the Campus Recreation unit.
Responsibilities
Duties include but are not limited to:
PROVIDE SUPERVISION AND MANAGEMENT: Provide supervision and management of the Outdoor Recreation program; establish guidance, trips, educational clinics, and schedules; expand program offerings to meet the student needs.
RECRUITMENT: Recruit, hire, train, schedule, evaluate, and supervise 6+ student staff necessary to support all programs (trip guides, rental attendants, team building and clinic facilitators, special event staff, etc.). Manage payroll/ time sheets for personnel and student employees. Provide staff coverage during evenings, weekends, and special events as determined by department and function needs; conduct annual evaluations of student staff.
RISK MANAGEMENT: Develop, implement, and maintain risk and procedures for outdoor trips, educational clinics, team-building courses, and specific program assignments. Ensure all required training and education programs are implemented for all areas of oversight. Conduct training sessions, in-service training, and testing for Outdoor Recreation staff.
DETERMINE TYPES OF EQUIPMENT: Determine types of equipment to be used for outdoor trips, outdoor rental programs, and educational clinics; maintain inventory and quality assessment of equipment.
MANAGE RENTAL PROGRAMS: Coordinate the management of the rental program by maintaining records and reports of the day-to-day operations. Determine a rental schedule, renter policies, and services to be provided. Establish maintenance schedules, repairs, and equipment inventory.
TEAM BUILDING: Manage and supervise team building courses. This includes reserving a facility or outdoor location, facilitating groups through the course, and inspecting the course elements and any equipment prior to use.
SUPERVISOR OUTDOOR CLINICS:
Manage and supervise educational clinics. This includes reserving a facility or outdoor location, facilitating groups through the clinic, inspecting any equipment prior to use, determining learning outcomes for each clinic, and offering pre and post-evaluations to provide assessment for effectiveness.
MANAGE OUTDOOR TRIPS: Manage and supervise outdoor trips. This includes reserving a facility, hotel lodging, or campsite; guiding groups through the trips; inspecting any equipment prior to use; securing transportation or other travel arrangements for participants; and establishing safety guidelines specific to the various trips.
MARKETING: Assist with the development and implementation of a marketing plan for the outdoor program.
OTHER DUTIES: Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in outdoor recreation, recreation, physical education, sports management, experience in supervision and development of recreational sports programming. Must possess a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS/BCLS certification or be willing to obtain one within three (3) months of hire; Certification in Emergency Response (opportunity for certification made available, and must obtain within six (6) months of hire); Wilderness First Responder certification.

Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of two (2) years experience in an educational and recreational environment CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor Certification; ACA Instructor certification; AMGA or PCIA Single-Pitch Instructor certification.

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday-Friday (work outside of normal business hours may be required)
Pay Band: B7
Salary: $43,888 /annually - $44,000 /annually
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
