The Department of Pathology at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University invites applications for a full-time AP or AP/CP trained surgical and autopsy pathologist at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to join the practice. The individual will assume responsibility for directorship of the Autopsy service which includes both adult and pediatric autopsies. The Director of Autopsy will work with Anatomic Pathology administration and Augusta University Medical Center (AUMC) to ensure that the laboratory meets all state and federal requirements, including, but not limited to the Joint Commission, College of American Pathologists (CAP) and GDCH guidelines, accreditation and licensure requirements and adheres to the best practices for optimal patient care and safety.

The Department of Pathology has 15 faculty with responsibilities in patient care, teaching and research. It is home to the Medical College of Georgia, the nation's ninth-largest and 13th-oldest medical school. The AU Medical Center consists of a 458 bed adult hospital and a 154 bed pediatric hospital on the same campus.
Responsibilities
  • Participate in the Surgical Pathology service
  • Participate in Autopsy service
  • Participate in teaching residents, medical students and medical technologists
  • Engage in research endeavors and scholarly activity

Required Qualifications
The applicant must have an MD or equivalent, with strong diagnostic skills in Surgical Pathology and/or other subspecialty as well as additional training or experience in the performance of Hospital based autopsies. Board certification/eligibility by the American Board of Pathology is required.
Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training
Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher;
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
  • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
