Job DescriptionThe Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering invites applicants for a tenure track/tenured position (depending on experience) in Accelerator Engineering to begin in Fall 2025 as part of a multi-position hiring initiative for Applications of Data Science, Engineering, and/or Physics to Particle Accelerators.This position is expected to be made at the rank of Assistant Professor, but an appointment at a higher rank will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates. We seek faculty with expertise in Electrical & Computer engineering or a related field to lead the development of applications to broad accelerator science areas, including improving existing and future accelerators, particle colliders, and light sources for fundamental research and applications in industry and medicine.
The appointee will maintain a vibrant, externally funded interdisciplinary research program to support the development of applications to the broad accelerator science areas. Collaboration with other faculty in Physics, Engineering, and the School of Data Science at ODU and accelerator scientists at the nearby Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab) is expected.
Other Responsibilities:
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses.
Advise graduate students.
Provide service to their department and the University.

Minimum Qualifications - knowledge, skills, and abilities
Minimum Qualifications - Education or training
A Ph.D. or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field is required.
Minimum Qualifications - Special licenses, registration or certification
Candidates applying for a senior faculty appointment (Associate Professor or Professor) must also have the following:
Academic records that merit a tenured appointment in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at ODU.
A successful record in research and externally funded grants.
Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate clearly with internal and external constituencies.
Preferred Qualifications
A strong publication record and/or experience with grant-funded research.
Postdoctoral experience.
Research including the engineering of particle accelerators and applications of accelerators and light sources for fundamental research and applications in industry and medicine, as well as other applications, or visualization and control of accelerators.
Expertise in AI/machine learning, visualization, and control of accelerators.
