The Budget and Financial Planning department at the University of Louisville is seeking a Budget Analyst IV. This position is an integral part of the university budget office and helps craft, monitor, and analyze the annual operating budget. The position engages in high-level budget development activities; prepares analyses that track budget-to-actual revenues and expenses; builds and maintains financial forecasting models; reviews and processes budget adjustments; serves on university committees as a representative of the budget office; develops and assists with mentoring junior staff as well as training other campus constituents on budget and financial systems; and completes various other financial reporting activities as needed. This position reports to the Director for Budget and Planning, and engage with finance leaders across campus, including finance directors and other units.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Engage in activities to facilitate the accurate and timely completion of the University’s Annual Operating Budget to include analyzing and reviewing academic and support unit operating budget requests. Will assist as needed with State Biennial Budget on behalf of the university.
Conducts sophisticated analysis and monitoring of the university’s annual budget, creates well-designed financial forecast models, and provides strategic budgetary recommendations and guidance to the Director for Budget and Planning and the Vice President for Budget and Finance.
Supports academic and supports unit finance staff on various budget and fiscal matters, including the review and processing of budget adjustment requests
Completes budget and financial reports for internal and external customers (e.g., state reporting, CPE, LRC, Moody’s, etc.)
Maintains an active, engaged role or, at the discretion of the Director, a leading role in maintaining and updating the university’s budget system which may also include uploading files and extracting reports as needed.
Mentors and trains junior staff within the Budget Office as well as help train other university constituents about the budget system, budget development, budget monitoring and other financial activities
Represents the Office of Budget and Financial Planning on committees and subcommittees
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in finance, accounting or related business field, plus 2-4 years of relevant experience.
Competencies
Highly proficient in Excel with large data sets, as well as other Microsoft application
Familiarity with Power BI
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
Good understanding of budget, finance and accounting principles
Strong analytical skills and data analysis with the ability to provide guidance that is data driven
Ability to work within a team, as well as mentor and provide training to other team members
Salary Minimum pay for Grade 8 Salaried is $65,400.
Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
