Course Description:
The COVID-19 pandemic not only forced the closure of public worship worldwide, it accelerated the digital transformation of religious experience and challenged churches to grapple with religion and theology in the digital age. What happens when religion goes digital? How are emerging digital technologies shaping and transforming how people think about and practice religion? Does it affect religious belief, behavior, worship, our sense of community, and even commitment? Does it even restructure how we think and relate to others? Vice versa, how might religion influence and shape the digital arena? This course explores the significance of the digital revolution for religion in general and the Catholic experience of faith in particular. This course offers a unique opportunity for theological reflection on digitality and its implications for the contemporary church as it explores several theological topics currently being rethought in light of technological change as well as the sudden inability for many to worship in person during a pandemic.
