Saint Mary's College of California invites applications for an adjunct position for the MFA in Dance: Somatic Movement Studies II
FOR DANCE 678 Somatic Movement Studies II for the Spring 2025 term. This course will be online and conducted on Saturdays from 11am to 2pm.
Instructor must be available to teach the course remotely from the State of California Specifically March 22, 11 am to 12:30 pm (PST) on Zoom.
Position Description:
Saint Mary's College of California invites applications for an adjunct position for the MFA in Dance: Creative Practice. We seek candidates with expertise in dance and somatics.
The MFA in Dance educates the whole dance artist. Through the lens of a liberal arts curriculum, the program's values are shaped by the quest for truth, authenticity and community building in a holistic model that integrates mind, body and spirit. The MFA in Dance offers a unique MFA degree in dance: Creative Practice which has a low-residency option with a focus on somatics, pedagogy and social justice.
Course description: Remote workshop and asynchronous study of somatic practice, as directed and guided by the instructor and built upon by the student's work individually based on the guidance they receive. This class allows students to continue their study of a somatic movement practice at Saint Mary's College. This course is expected to be a movement based practice in the faculty member's own area of Somatic expertise and practice directed in 3-4 workshops as well as supplemented by asynchronous study provided to the students.
Qualifications:
Qualifications: Applicants must have an MA, MFA or other terminal degree in the appropriate field or equivalent knowledge and experience in the field of dance and somatics. They must also have a certification in the field of Somatics from an ISMETA approved training program. Potential applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to student-centered teaching in the liberal arts tradition, and show evidence of teaching effectiveness among graduate students. Prior teaching experience and/or professional experience is preferred.

Applicants must reside in California.
Salary: $2,482 - $3,436 depending on qualifications.
The salary range for this position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available here.
