Summary
Dr. Jiang and Dr. Frankfort's group are seeking a highly motivated Research Technician to support retinal research in both basic science and preclinical studies. This role will be equally split between conducting laboratory work for basic science (50%) and performing pre-clinical research on patients. The technician will collaborate closely with both research labs and clinical teams to evaluate innovative diagnostic equipment developed for detecting retinal diseases.
Job Duties
- Performs standard animal care and husbandry duties, including maintaining animal colonies.
- Conducts routine genotyping and manage transgenic mouse lines.
- Ensures proper record-keeping and compliance with institutional protocols for animal welfare.
- Maintains laboratory supplies and handles purchasing and inventory management.
- Assists with other routine lab work and experiments as needed.
- Coordinates patient visits for clinical tests, ensuring smooth scheduling and communication.
- Performs Electroretinography (ERG) tests on patients, following the lab’s protocols.
- Collects, organizes, and manages clinical data accurately and efficiently.
- Ensures compliance with Institutional Review Board (IRB) requirements and maintains patient confidentiality.
- Collaborates with clinical staff to optimize the new diagnostic equipment being tested.
- Learns and becomes familiar with lab activities, maintains and assistsas needed.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with animals in a research setting.
- Familiarity with clinical research practices and patient care.
