What Your Job Will Be Like:
The Import/Export Compliance department is seeking a highly motivated professional to contribute to the implementation and advancement of Sandia’s Export Control Program. Our Export Trade Compliance Analysts help ensure that Sandia complies with United States Export Control laws, rules and regulations. We are looking for a driven individual who will be a contributing member of a team that makes decisions on high-risk issues involving the export and import of commodities, technologies, and information.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Provide direction to management and staff for the protection of export-controlled research and technologies across all of Sandia.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of key risk management and assurance activities related to Sandia’s Export Control Program.
Salary Range:
$70,200 - $135,400
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
Qualifications We Desire:
- Two (2) years of relevant experience.
- Experience providing regulatory interpretation and guidance in the following areas: export control classification, export licensing, compliance training, export documentation, tariff classification.
- Experience with compliance, risk, or assurance activities.
- Formal training or certification in risk management methodologies.
- Ability to create and present trainings on various aspects and nuances of export control laws, rules and regulations and their application to specific technologies.
- Knowledge of and ability to understand diverse technical fields and analyze technologies.
- Ability to thoroughly analyze complex information and technical specifications.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with demonstrated ability to apply these skills to resolve complex issues.
- Ability to organize, establish priorities, lead, and execute assignments to completion on multiple tasks, under strict deadlines and changing priorities.
- Ability to integrate with leadership and interact effectively with all levels of internal and external personnel to build effective working relationships.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
About Our Team:
The International Export & Trade Compliance Organization (IETC) manages and implements Sandia's, Export, and Import Compliance Program. Our mission is to ensure that all SNL activities comply with relevant Export and Import Control laws and regulations. IETC interprets export and import controls for commodities, software and technology subject to the jurisdiction of the Departments of Energy, State, Commerce, Homeland Security, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. This includes guidance and support for export control determinations, licenses, investigations and training. In addition, IETC conducts reviews of facilities, Cooperative Research and Development Agreements, Work for Other Agreements, Intellectual Property, specifications, technology assessments for foreign visits and assignments, foreign travel, and other areas. IETC also oversees Import Compliance, including customs clearance, USHTS Classification, duty avoidance, broker management and other aspects of informed compliance and reasonable care.

Security Clearance:
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
