Summary
The School of Inclusive Teacher Education invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Special Education with a start date of August 2025. Teaching and research may be related to one or more of the following areas: assessment, instruction of students with extensive support needs, and/or methods of teaching across content areas. The position is a 9-month appointment with the possibility of summer teaching.

Special education at Bowling Green State University is housed within the School of Inclusive Teacher Education and the College of Education and Human Development. The mission of the special education faculty is to prepare future educators and professionals with the knowledge, skills, and values to promote access, inclusion, and belonging for individuals with disabilities in all areas of life. The undergraduate Intervention Specialist program leads to Ohio K-12 licensure for teaching students with mild-to-moderate and moderate-to-intensive educational needs. Online graduate certificates in Applied Behavior Analysis, Assistive Technology, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and Secondary Transition provide advanced professional preparation that leads to a special education master’s degree.

The School of Inclusive Teacher Education, housed within the College of Education and Human Development, is committed to building and sustaining a dynamic, collaborative community of highly skilled teachers for all levels of education, thereby increasing graduates’ options and those of their students for lives as independent, productive, and contributing citizens. The School advocates for rigorous scholarship, innovative teaching and learning, and civic and professional engagement that places high value on the diversity of individuals and communities in a global society. The School serves approximately 1500 undergraduate students and nearly 500 graduate students in seven initial licensure programs and four graduate programs, with numerous endorsements and certificates. These programs are guided by more than fifty full-time faculty and staff.

The College of Education and Human Development, BGSU’s founding college, is the home to a dynamic group of graduate and undergraduate programs, composed of three academic units: the School of Applied Human Development; the School of Counseling, Higher Education, Leadership, and Foundations; and the School of Inclusive Teacher Education. Approximately 150 full-time faculty and staff serve over 3,000 undergraduate students and over 1,000 graduate students. Essential Functions
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to special education in one or more of the following programs: a) undergraduate Intervention Specialist program (leading to combined K-12 Mild-Moderate and Moderate-Intensive special education licenses); b) undergraduate Inclusive Early Childhood program (leading to combined PK-5 special and general education licenses); c) graduate Master’s Degree in Special Education online program that includes specializations in: Applied Behavior Analysis, Assistive Technology, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and Secondary Transition.
Establish and maintain a productive research line leading to peer-reviewed publications and presentations and engage in grant writing activities as appropriate.
Participate in student advising and collaborate in program development.
Contribute to the school, college, university, and the profession through select service activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Earned doctorate in Special Education or closely related field with a focus on special or inclusive education. ABDs are eligible to apply, but all requirements for the doctoral degree must be met by the start of employment (August 2025).
Demonstrated evidence of scholarly activities, including research investigations, publications, presentations at professional conferences, and/or grant writing.
A minimum of two years professional experience working in special education or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
Effective teaching experience at the college level in multiple modalities.
Demonstrated commitment to inclusion (e.g., through curriculum development, research, and/or service).
Demonstrated experience collaborating between special education and general education.
