College/Department Information
The Controller's Division Missions are: Account for all financial resources and provide advice to administrators, faculty, and students to support the University's overall mission of instruction, research, and healthcare services; Manage the investment of all University funds to ensure maximization return on investments; Receive and deposit all funds due to the University in a timely manner; Ensure compliance with both internal and external regulations, policies and procedures; Maintain and process the University payroll, accounts payable, and travel disbursements efficiently, accurately, and timely; Prepare financial and statistical information to the University management, federal and state agencies, and other interested parties; Maintain the University's accounting and financial reporting systems.
Job Summary
The Assistant Bursar plays a key role in managing financial operations related to student accounts and accounts receivable. Responsibilities include overseeing billing processes, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with institutional policies and regulations. The position requires strong analytical and organizational skills, proficiency in financial software, and the ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff. A commitment to professionalism and the ability to handle difficult situations with poise are essential. Candidates should have a solid understanding of accounting principles. Experience in a higher education environment is desirable.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Biannual user access audit
Implement biannual Banner Accounts Receivable Users and TouchNet Users access audit. Prepare USG Employee Tuition Assistance (TAP) reporting per semester. Assist Bursar and serve as primary backup with the tuition and fee rules creation/maintenance in student system each semester.
Perform quarterly reconciliations
Perform quarterly allowance for doubtful accounts, biannual account write-off submissions and various reconciliations. Assist and serve as primary backup with FISAP, HRSA AOR, Scholarship Allowance and other reporting as needed to support the Bursar office.
Audit participation
Participate in fiscal year-end state audit requirements associated with closing the year and audit. Other audit participation as required.
Participate in committee meetings
Participate in RACAR committee meetings, other committee participation, conference attendance as well as serve as backup to the Bursar/Assistant Bursar for all committees and projects as needed.
Web site maintenance
Web site maintenance. Assist with tax form production. Maintain Banner detail codes and perform journal entries as needed.
Perform project duties
Perform project duties such as planning and testing in conjunction with the Bursar and staff. Backup Bursar/Assistant Bursar/Student Accounts Manager duties as needed; other duties as assigned/needed to ensure ongoing business continuity.
Oversee standard operating procedures
Identify, create, and maintain needed Standard Operating Procedures for critical processes.
Customer communication
Communications-Ensures consistent and timely communications for all external and internal customers. Plans, coordinates, and executes as needed.

Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Business Management, Accounting, or Finance
Required Experience
Three years of relevant work experience in accounts receivable or related fields, preferably in a higher education environment
Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Experience in higher education is preferable. Knowledge of Banner or other relational databases including account management and complex funding operations. Intermediate to advanced Excel ability. Supervisory experience, familiarity with student culture, basic knowledge of financial aid and experience in reconciling and cash management of financial aid.

ABILITIES
Ability to critically analyze data through excellent accounting and organizational skills, along with effective interpersonal abilities, are necessary for ensuring accurate reporting and maintaining positive working relationships with all constituents.
The candidate must also demonstrate professionalism in challenging situations and ensure all communications are accurate and timely.
KNOWLEDGE
Strong understanding of the institution's policies, procedures, and regulations as they pertain to Accounts Receivable is essential.
SKILLS
Proficiency in computer skills, including Word and Excel, as well as experience with Banner and/or PeopleSoft, is required.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days/M-F (work outside of the normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)
Pay Band: 13
Salary: $68,500.00/Annually - $82,800/Annually
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
