What Your Job Will Be Like:
Are you passionate about ensuring the safety and security of critical assets? We are seeking a dedicated Physical Security Systems Specialist to join our dynamic team at Sandia National Laboratories. In this vital role, you will plan, recommend, and implement electronic and physical security systems that align with our security strategies and comply with DOE directives. Your expertise will be crucial in safeguarding our security assets and maintaining a secure environment.
On any given day, you may be called upon to:
- Design and Implement Security Solutions: Lead the design, installation, configuration, and operation of advanced physical and technical security systems to enhance our security posture.
- Collaborate with Key Personnel: Work alongside a team of experts to plan, test, troubleshoot, and repair intrusion detection systems (IDS) and access control systems (ACS).
- Establish Security Standards: Define and maintain security system standards, policies, and required upgrades, ensuring the effective management of all security systems through integrators or internal resources.
- Ensure System Viability: Monitor and assess the performance of all electronic security systems, both legacy and new, to minimize disruptions caused by failures or misconfigurations.
- Engage with Customers: Interact with all levels of customers in a high-security environment, providing tailored solutions to specific security concerns identified through audits and requests.
- Stay Ahead of Technology: Maintain an in-depth knowledge of state-of-the-art security equipment standards and technology to ensure our systems are cutting-edge.
- Develop Operational Processes: Create and maintain processes that uphold security standards and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Act as Emergency Contact: Serve as the primary site contact for emergency security system issues, responding swiftly to any incidents.
- Analyze Performance Data: Conduct laboratory experiments, gather performance data, and analyze metrics to recommend modifications that meet desired specifications.
- Support Diverse Technologies: Provide support for a wide range of computer hardware and software, ensuring optimal performance and security.
- Lead Special Assignments: Take on special projects related to high-level security systems design and installation, contributing to our mission of national security.
Due to the nature of the work, this candidate must work onsite. Candidate must be available to respond to emergency calls during non-operational hours and work deviated schedules when necessary and as scheduled.
Salary Range:
$81,900 - $157,500
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field such as Computer Information Systems, Computer Science , plus five (5) years of directly related experience working with information technology security applications and practices; OR equivalent (AS+9 or no degree+13)
- Experience with control systems configuration management.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance and SCI access.
Qualifications We Desire:
- Experience with Lenel OnGuard access control and intrusion detection systems.
- Ability to conceptualize and communicate major elements of security to both technical and non-technical personnel.
- Knowledgeable of Sandia’s security policies, practices, and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
- Knowledgeable in low voltage electrical systems or electronic systems.
- Proven knowledge of logical security systems interface.
- Knowledge in Intelligence Community Directives (ICD’s)
- Self-motivated and customer-focused with ability to work independently with little or no daily direction.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and complete multiple complex tasks.
- Excellent communication skills with proficiency in MS Office Suite.
- Knowledge and experience with security functions that require extensive documentation and data management.
- Experience with low-voltage control systems infrastructure.
- Knowledge of design, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electronics, alarms and access control sensors, distributed systems controls, control sensors, and power supplies.
- Be available to respond to emergency calls during non-operational hours and work deviated schedules when necessary and as scheduled.
- Able to travel when necessary.
About Our Team:
The Field Intelligence Element (FIE) Operations Group performs high-impact, national security work for a broad segment of the Intelligence Community. The FIE Physical Security Department protects the information of our customers and creates a secure environment that allows Sandia to deliver products and services that protect our nation's security. The functions of this department include program security, visitor control, badge office, protocol, FIE Safety, facility security, and SCIF space.

Security Clearance:
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
Position Information:
This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.
Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
