What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking a Mechanical Technologist with significant experience working with small (<1mm) parts and aptitude for meticulous and detailed work for the Switch tube (SWTB) Product Realization Team in Org. 07581. Organization 07581 is the key department at SNL for design, development, and transition to production for Switch Tubes, an essential component of Firing Sets in the Nation’s nuclear stockpile.
On any given day, duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Transition of critical component assembly from an art to standard processing
- Cleaning and preparing components for assembly
- Building and development of switch tubes
- Designing, testing, characterizing new fixtures
- Transferring new designs and processes to production environment
- Operating stations to perform solder dipping, abrasive blasting, ultrasonic cleaning, vacuum firing, partial pressure and air firing, optical dimension measurement and photography, X-ray, XRF, and others
- Assisting engineers with critical troubleshooting and problem solving
Due to the nature of the work, this is an on-site position. Some travel is required.
Salary Range:
$60,300 - $116,000
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- HS Diploma and 3 or more years of relevant education or experience
- Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level clearance
- Experience using mechanical and/or optical measurement and/or experience using optical microscopy, photography and working under a stereoscope for assembly
- Experience with Excel, Word, or PowerPoint
Qualifications We Desire:
- Knowledge of basic metallurgy
- Knowledge of braze science
- Excellent documentation skills
- Experience with vacuum and air furnaces
- Lab experience – working with acids, alcohols, vapor degreaser and pressurized gas
- Process management, engineering management or other education with background in optimizing and improving processes and documenting work is also desirable.
- Experience running Multimeters or DACs
- Active DOE Q-clearance or higher or DOD equivalent.

The SWTB team in Department 07581 provides customers with custom high voltage switch technologies for national security applications. These components are designed to meet demanding performance specifications, offer extremely high reliability, and meet stringent survivability requirements in adverse environments.
