Job Description

Kenai Peninsula College is seeking an exceptional individual interested in teaching as a Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Process Instrumentation/Electronic Technology.

We are seeking a dedicated and innovative instructor to teach freshman and sophomore-level courses in electronics and industrial instrumentation, both in-person and online. Responsibilities include teaching day, evening, and online courses; advising students in instrumentation and electronics and related areas; and maintaining the electronics lab in excellent working condition while ensuring it remains technically current. The role also involves developing and updating components, equipment, and instruments, as well as exploring new teaching and delivery methods, including distance learning. The instructor will be expected to hold office hours appropriate to their teaching schedule and participate in both university and community service activities.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate enthusiasm for undergraduate teaching, a passion for educational innovation, and a strong commitment to working with non-traditional students. They must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with individuals from diverse age groups. Additionally, they should have the ability to teach electronics and technical instrumentation courses at the freshman and sophomore levels, covering topics such as basic electronics, analog and digital electronics, basic programming, function of instruments and the basics of process measurements.

Preferred qualifications include the ability to install and troubleshoot electronic devices, as well as skills in computer PLC programming and interfacing. Experience in effectively communicating electronics, instrumentation, and programming concepts to non-engineering students is highly desirable, as is experience maintaining and troubleshooting electronic systems. Candidates with recent, significant professional accomplishments in the electronics field, substantial teaching experience beyond the apprentice level in related areas, and familiarity with distance learning methodologies are preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate Degree in Industrial Process Instrumentation OR documented 5-years of experience in instrumentation work in the natural resources industry or closely related industry (i.e. Engineering-Electrical, Chemical, Industrial; Math).

Position Details:

This position is located on the Kenai Peninsula College campus in Soldotna. This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure track, faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
