Summary
The Department of Medicine is actively seeking a highly skilled and experienced financial professional to join our dynamic team as the Senior Manager for Financial Operations. This is a critical leadership position within our department, where you will play an integral role in managing and optimizing our $350 million operating budget. We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in financial management, exceptional analytical skills, and a proven ability to drive financial strategies in a complex organizational environment. The Department of Medicine is a highly complex and matrixed organization which encompasses 14 academic divisions, over 1,800 faculty and staff. This role is solely focused on the finance function in the department of medicine.
This position is eligible to work a hybrid work arrangement within the Greater Houston, TX area.

Job Duties
- Manage the department's central finance team and through a matrix reporting structure, oversee financial personnel across the department’s academic divisions.
- Oversee financial management and accountability at the department level including budget administration, financial planning, and financial reporting.
- Review, monitor, and approveexpenditures at the department level to ensure compliance with policy and funding guidelines.
- Oversee the allocation of funding for faculty to ensure compliance with departmental policies and develop action plans for faculty with at risk funding scenarios.
- Develop and implement best practices in financial management and operations.
- Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Identify and mitigate financial risks through proactive planning and monitoring.
- Develop and implement robust internal controls to safeguard financial processes.
- Workclosely with division administrators as a strategic advisor to monitor and manage financial performance, ensuring alignment with overall departmental goals.
- Lead significant and complex projects as assigned.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or a related field.
- Fiveyears of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of supervisory experience.
- Ability to display a professional, positive attitude with strong interpersonal skills and communication skills required and must be able to work independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines.
- Highly detail-oriented, self-motivated, efficient, and strong organizational skills.
- Demonstrate a high degree of flexibility in accepting work assignments with the ability to effectively prioritize tasks, understand processes, and resolve issues.
