College/Department Information
Augusta University Libraries provide books, ebooks, government publications, journals, audiovisuals, databases, historical collections, and more, in support of student and faculty research. We provide research assistance in person and electronically and also provide tours and instruction classes for undergraduate, graduate and professional students. Students can request appointments with librarians, including specialized medical reference librarians, for more in-depth research needs. Thousands of research journals are available electronically, in person and remotely - through research databases held in GALILEO and elsewhere, with many available full text.
Job Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to provide a high level of support to the Libraries and University through extensive knowledge of Special Collections and Institutional Archives. Maintains integrity of materials related to the history of Augusta University and the broader Augusta community, through professional standards of library and archival practices and preservation. Assist patrons researching community, personal and/or institutional histories. Facilitates usage of Reese Library Special Collections and Institutional Archives by creation of finding aids and providing assistance to researchers and patrons. Assists the Special Collection Librarian in the supervision of student workers, interns, and volunteers.
Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to:
REFERENCE SERVICES: Assist on-campus and off-campus researchers and patrons by answering queries regarding the history of Augusta, the CSRA, and Augusta University, including genealogical queries. This includes finding research materials and providing digital surrogates of material, if necessary. Maintains statistical data on queries and visits to the Reading Room.
COLLECTION CARE: Arrange and describe archival collections held within the Reese Library Special Collections and Institutional Archives. Perform basic preservation on materials as needed. Create finding aids using metadata and descriptive standards, e.g. DACS, EAD, MARC, etc. Assists in the supervision of student workers, interns, and volunteers working with collections.
DIGITIZATION: Digitize archival materials according to professional standards for inclusion in the Augusta University institutional repository, Scholarly Commons. Create metadata for digitized materials following Dublin Core and/or other descriptive standards. Provide best possible digital preservation of the digitized items.
OUTREACH: Participate in departmental outreach efforts, including assisting in the curation and installation of exhibits
DONATIONS: Serve as a point-of-contact for interested parties wishing to make material donations, e.g. books, archival collections, etc. to the Reese Library Special Collections and Institutional Archives
OTHER DUTIES: Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with one (1) year of professional library information services, or education experience OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of progressively responsible library experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in archives or special collections
Experience with ArchivesSpace or other collection management systems
Familiarity with library and archives rules, schema, and standards such as DACS, EAD, Dublin Core, MARC, etc.
Experience with digitization projects
Demonstrated interest in local history
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days/M-F
Pay Grade: B5
Salary: Minimum; $17.88/hourly - Midpoint; $21.92/hourly
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position

Conditions of Employment
