The Graduate School aims to provide a rich intellectual, academic and research environment for educating students to become leaders in the discovery, dissemination, and application of knowledge. To help facilitate this, our graduate faculty members are selected based on experience in research, scholarship and education. Job Summary
The Slate Functional Technologist plays a crucial role in supporting and optimizing the use of slate CRM within graduate enrollment operations and student success. This position bridges the gap between technology and functional processes, focusing on configuring and maintaining Slate's capabilities to streamline admissions, enhance student experiences, increase student retention, and improve workflow efficiency. The Functional Technologist collaborates closely with graduate admissions teams, faculty, and IT staff to implement best practices, manage data reporting, and drive system improvements tailored to the unique needs of a wide range of graduate programs. With an emphasis on process innovation, user support, and data integrity, this role ensures that Slate is fully leveraged to support institutional goals and elevate the graduate recruitment, enrollment, and retention.
Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to:
APPLICATIONS SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT AND SUPPORT: Strategize, configure, develop, implement, and support the deployment of the Slate system for graduate programs. Collaborate with functional user partners to understand business processes, ensuring the Slate system meets their needs. Communicate system enhancements and updates in non-technical terms and provide training and documentation on data entry procedures. Utilize extensive knowledge of the Slate platform to recommend and implement tailored solutions that address the business needs of graduate programs and related stakeholders. Identify and resolve business process configurations and application challenges within the institution's operational ecosystem, collaborating with IT to address technical issues related to platform integration. Design, develop, and support interfaces that facilitate seamless integration between the Slate system and other institutional platforms. Configure and customize workflows, forms, reports, and portals to meet departmental needs, ensuring application processes are seamless for graduate applicants. Manage new Slate initiatives, focusing on functionality and aesthetics for smooth rollouts. Document business requirements and translate them into system needs, including creating development plans, and outcomes, creating training and support documentation for end users and the internal CRM support team. Apply industry standards and methodologies for programming/application development and IT project management to ensure effective problem resolution and accountability controls. Assist in configuring application data and annual updates and cycle preparation for the Slate applications
DATA COLLECTION, STORAGE, AND REPORTING: Analyze requirements, design, code, test, and deploy SQL Reporting Services reports and corresponding SQL queries to meet institutional needs. Create user reports using relevant business analytics tools, ensuring they meet the needs of functional users at partner institutions. Ensure the quality and integrity of collected data, generating reports for management and funder reporting, while designing standardized datasets for ad-hoc queries. Establish and maintain policies for consistent querying methods to ensure high database performance. Develop custom reports and dashboards using Slate's reporting tools and third-party platforms like Tableau, providing actionable insights to key stakeholders. Collaborate with external partners to integrate supplemental systems to import data and maximize processes (example: Parchment, CAS's, EGE/TOEFL/WES, etc.)
COMMUNICATON & ENROLLMENT CAMPAIGNS: Support the development and management of communication flows for enrollment funnel management, including email and print campaigns, and ensure timely delivery. Collaborate with the admissions team to design, implement, and track communication plans that drive recruitment and engagement for graduate programs. Collaborate with student success team to design, implement, and track proactive outreach communication that drives retention and persistence for graduate programs. Develop and maintain reporting functions to monitor key metrics and best practices for Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM), supporting enrollment goals and retention strategies. Coordinate with Marketing, IT and other departments to optimize engagement
DATA INTEGRITY AND SYSTEM OPTIMIZATION: Ensure data integrity through rule-based automation and consistent auditing of system processes. Develop systems and processes to ensure that data are accurate and reliable. Monitor data quality, migration, and integration among platforms. Test, deploy, and validate updates, data feed, and new functionalities from Technolutions to keep the system up to date. Manage data integrations and troubleshoot in data feed between Slate and other systems including university databases. Work with data stewards and IT to support Governance.
USER SUPPORT & TRAINING: Work across the institution as the point person for Slate users and champion for the CRM. Continually expand knowledge of the system to strengthen technological outcomes. Provide training and mentorship to staff, guiding team members on project milestones and offering feedback to improve technical skills. Offer ongoing user support and technical assistance to staff, facility, and leadership in using Slate. Conduct training workshops and develop user guides to ensure institutional proficiency with the slate CRM Maintain thorough documentation, including system configuration, processes, and workflows, to ensure continuity and knowledge sharing,
PROJECT ADMINISTRATION: Collaborate with IT on software development projects by defining and managing scope, objectives, risks, tasks, responsibilities, timelines, and documentation to meet institutional goals. Work with vendors to identify enhancements, test solutions, and stay informed about system upgrades. Oversee the creation and maintenance of complete technical documentation for all supported systems, ensuring accessibility for new staff. Perform needs assessments to gather requirements and drive effective solutions.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field (e.g., Information Technology, Education, or Business Administration) with a minimum of 5 years of Experience in higher education settings, particularly in admissions, enrollment management, or related areas.

Preferred Qualifications
Three or more years of direct experience as a functional technologist or in a related role within higher education, specifically focusing on the Slate platform.
Proven track record of successfully managing complex projects related to CRM implementation, upgrades, and integration, demonstrating leadership and strategic thinking.
Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including admissions, financial aid, and academic departments, to streamline processes and improve user engagement with Slate.
Strong analytical sills in utilizing data analytics and reporting to inform decision-making and drive process improvement in enrollment management and student success initiatives.
Proficiency in advanced SQL and reporting tools to create sophisticated data visualizations and dashboards that support institutional goals.
Demonstrated ability to design and deliver training programs for various user groups, enhancing proficiency in Slate and promoting best practices in utilization,
Familiarity with change management principles, enabling effective adoption of new technologies and processes within the institution.
Experience with learning management systems (LMS) and their integration with CRM solutions, optimizing the student experience throughout the enrollment lifecycle.
Engagement in professional development opportunities, such as attending conferences, obtaining relevant certifications, or participating in community forums related to educational technology and CRM best practices.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
Strong understanding of the Slate platform and its applications for enrollment management.
Proficiency in educational technologies, including CRM systems, BI tools, and web technologies (e.g., HTML, Tableau).
Comprehensive understanding of business processes and how a CRM can and will be utilized across the organization to improve and maximize enrollment outcomes.
Competence in developing and maintaining standardize datasets for ad-hoc reporting needs.
Experience in leading cross-functional projects, defining objectives, and coordinating with team members to achieve goals.
Proven expertise in utilizing the Slate platform or similar CRM systems for managing student recruitment and enrollment processes.
Experience in data analysis and reporting, including proficiency in SQL and data visualization tools to support decision-making.
Familiarity with project management methodologies and the ability to coordinate cross-functional initiatives effectively.

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days/M-F (work outside of normal hours may be required)
Pay Grade: B12
Salary: $62,300/annually - $79,400/annually
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
